Many dances are preceded by full-page illustrations and each dance is provided with appropriate music notated in Italian lute tablature. Each separate dance is dedicated with a sonnet to one of the illustrious ladies of the period. Fabritio Caroso is also the author of an additional dance manual, Nobiltà di dame (1600; 1605)., With a final index of the dances described., and Woodcut head- and tail-pieces and initials within text throughout.
