Abstract:
The U.S.S. Milwaukee ran aground on January 13, 1917 while attempting to assist the submarine USS H-3 (SS-30), named Garfish, which also ran aground on the same beach but closer to shore. Although the submarine was eventually salvaged and restored to service, the Milwaukee was never able to be salvaged and broke up during a storm in November of 1918.
