Abstract:
The Coalition ministers are gathered around the table placed in the mouth of a cave. On the left sits Lord North wearing armor under his cloak, a goblet in his left hand. Opposite him on the right is Charles Fox, dressed as a centurion and sitting on a fox. He leans on the table keeping his right hand on three dice signed, "Madras," "Bombay," and "Bengal," and clutching a dice box in his left. Behind him Admiral Keppel, the date of the battle of Ushant (1778) on his helmet, raises his goblet in a toast. Behind him Sheridan, with ass's ears and "School for Scandal" written across his head cover, watches the Duke of Portland count out money to Lord Carlisle. On Portland's shoulder leans Lord Cavendish in a centurion's armor under his cloak. Between him and North sits Burke in a Jesuit's outfit reading his own "Plan of oeconomy [sic]." Under the table lie the corpses of Lords Shelburne and Ashburton, ousted by the Coalition

Abstract:
In a possible burlesque of West's Death of Wolfe, a "wounded" Fox lies supported by his followers. He is held in the arms of Admiral Keppel, as Burke in monk's habit offers him a glass, and Mary (Perdita) Robinson applies smelling salts. North is to the right, swooning with grief and supported by Portland, while Sheridan kneels to the right in front of John Cavendish. Behind Fox at the far left the Prince of Wales kneels to kiss Perdita's unoccupied hand. A satire on the defeat of Fox's India Bill

"The pair, both very bulky in Highland costume, are back to back. The King (right), wearing a feathered bonnet, a huge sporran, and a sword, stoops to kiss a lady (see British Museum Satires No. 14384), hands clasped behind her neck; he says: "The Sweetest hours that 'ere I spent, it was among The Lasses O! Other ladies eagerly wait their turn. One, behind the King, covers her face with her fan. Curtis, grotesquely obese, and directed to the left, capers, snapping his fingers. He wears a turtle in place of sporran, and in his belt are knife, fork, and ladle. Round his neck is a double chain of sausages. He sings: "Georgie loves good ale & wine And Geordie loves good Brandy And Geordie loves to Kiss all the Girls As sweet as Sugar Candy"-- God save the King Huzza my Boys!! I'm the Boy for a bit of a Jollification! play up Piper!! A piper (left) with bare, thin, and misshapen legs plays and dances. A stout Highlander watches with a grin. "A kitchen scene. An ugly parson holding a small slice of meat speared on a fork, angrily berates his gardener (right), pointing behind him to a vast round of beef on the table (left). He bawls: 'Tis my Beef you rascal I'll swear to the Complexion of it--& my Bread too! & I'll have you hanged for stealing it. The gardener, a young man holding a spade, draws back in astonishment, saying, Lord love your Reverence my Aunt gave me that slice of Bread & Beef for my dinner to day!! The comely cook holds up her hands and turns up her eyes, exclaiming: O L--d O L--d what a x x x !!!!! it is no more like his Beef than I am--. A mouse scampers off, saying, Besides, if it was Cookee, what a d--d mean wretch to take notice of it-- 'tis time for me to be off! On the table are also a huge loaf, a slice of bread, and a knife. "A scene in the Royal yacht. George IV kneels at the feet of 'Lady Hell-fling-stone' who is seated (left), expressing delighted acceptance. The King wears Highland dress with a very short kilt and cavalry boots (see British Museum Satires No. 14220) on bare legs. His (Garter) star is centred by a heart. He has a love-sick expression, right hand on his heart, his feathered bonnet in his left hand. On an ornate altar-like table are decanters and glasses. Curtis, even more burlesqued than before, enters (right) carrying a tureen of steaming (turtle) soup. Abstract:
"A design in two equal compartments placed side by side. A fat Frenchman (left) sits at a round table in profile to the right, knife and fork in hand, grinning delightedly at a large joint of beef flanked by a vast loaf and a decanter. He wears an enormous cocked hat, Hessian boots, and a coat of quasi-military cut. He says: "Ah What Monsieur Jack Bull you going to starve me!!!" Beside him sits his greyhound, bulgingly replete. From the table hangs a scroll: 'Beef Mutton Veal [bracketed] 002, loaf 005, Plenty'. The table has a cloth, the floor is carpeted. John Bull (right), thin and almost bald, his baggy face showing traces of former tet, sits in profile to the left, with clasped hands, regarding with resigned disgust a small oblong table, on which are a plate of fish (herring and sprats), a small oar, and a meagre dish of potatoes. His ragged coat is that of a once prosperous citizen. He says: "who would have thought it!" From the table hangs a scroll headed 'Pd: Beef 1s, Mutton 10 1/2, Veal 1[s], Butter 1. 6, loaf 1. 9 Potatoes 3d' A pitcher of water stands on the boarded floor. Beside him his emaciated bulldog lies moribund. On the wall in each compartment is a large print: [left] 'A French man in 1788', a copy, reversed of the Frenchman in British Museum Satires No. 5612, Gillray's 'Politeness' (see frontispiece, vol. v); a thin fop taking snuff, and saying over his shoulder (to John Bull), "Vous etes une Bete". The lean greyhound behind his chair sniffs other nervously towards John's mastiff; frogs hang on the wall, [right] A copy of the other part of British Museum Satires No. 5612: 'John Bull in 1788', John sits scowling contemptuously over his (right) shoulder at the Frenchman, saying, "you be d------d". On the left Fox kneels, eagerly receiving from Satan a dice box and dice, an allusion to his notorious gambling habit, while on the right Burke receives a scourge and rosary, a reference to his supposed Catholicism. Abstract:
The new ministry is depicted on a large carousel, erected in front of the "Crown and Royal Bob" Inn. The structure is supported by a center pole held in place by pegs labelled "Treasury," "Navy" and "Army" terminating at the top with the head of the King in the form of a wig block. Fox, with a fox's head and tail, leads the procession, holding a bag of money. Behind him, Lord North on a horse with its legs cut short, loses his wig; Burke in Jesuit's habit and on a similarly lame horse, has partially turned into a skeleton due to his economical reform; Admiral Keppel behind him is desperate to remain seated on his donkey. Lastly a Scotsman labelled "President" signifies Scottish influence over the Crown. Watching from a seat before the Inn, a complacent John Bull mouths slogans of liberty, unaware that his house is being plundered behind him

"A scene of disorder; men sitting and standing round a circular table; they are smoking, gesticulating and drinking. A very fat man, seated on the farther side of the table, wearing a hat and smoking, his hands folded, says,"we want men of Activity". His neighbour, also smoking, adds "To destroy all their Looms". The next man (left), clenching his fists, says, "Blood & Guts, what are we all about - our Armys are grazing in Idleness, like a Flock of Sheep till they die of the Rot - I'd send them to Slaughter all the Cattle on the Enemy's Coast & make the Papist Scoundrells keep a long Lent of it". A man (right) holding up a foaming tankard, says "Old England will never be conquer'd while we can Brew such Drink as this". A barber, a comb stuck in his hair, an implement for curling hair protruding from his pocket, leans back in his chair, saying, "We're all in the Suds - I could shew them a way to lower their French Toupees". On his right stands the figure of 'Prattle' (Atkinson of Pall Mall), as in British Museum Satires No. 5603 but in reverse. He is saying, "Beg your Pardon my Dr Sir, meant no Offence my Dr Mr Tallow - too much Love & Respect - your Perfectly in the Right - of the same Opinion of my Led & I - they'll never Invade us as you say & my Lud Chatter observed to me the other Night at Lady Carbuncles". He is addressing a stout man standing on the left of the table, who flourishes a stick in his right hand while with a blow from his fist he overturns a punch-bowl, having upset a tankard, a lemon, and a number of wineglasses which are falling to the ground. He says "Dont Talk to me of your Dukes & your Lords, I'm a True Born Englishman, & dont care for Nobody not I - they dare not invade us - Damme they dare not - you Glister Pipe, you pitiful Plaister Spreader You------". A dog barks at him. A thin and rather ragged-looking man on his right, his hands in his breeches pockets, says "Invade us - Damme, what can Soup Meager do against Beef & Plumb Pudding"; a pair of scissors projecting from his coat-pocket shows that he is a tailor; his stockings are ungartered and his shoes are unbuckled. On the extreme left an elderly man with a tie-wig and wearing a hat and pince-nez, sits in a chair reading a newspaper; he holds up a hand in dismay saying, "All's lost". Behind stands a waiter, his napkin under his arm, saying "Dr Prattle says right - I'll go over to the Opposition and never drink another Pot with my Lords Footman". "George III, wearing a crown and ermine-trimmed robe is seated in an arm-chair asleep. The tassels of his girdle are thistles, indicative of Scottish influence. Round his neck is a chain from which hangs a cross, indicating the Romanizing tendencies of which he was accused at this time, see British Museum Satires No. 5534, &c. His crown is being taken from his head by a judge in wig and ermine-trimmed robes, evidently Mansfield. Over the king's shoulder looks a Scot in Highland dress, evidently Bute, holding the sceptre which he has taken from the king's hand. He leans towards Mansfield saying "What shall be done with it?" Mansfield answers, "Wear it Your sel my Leard." On the king's left a man stands who holds in both hands the other side of the crown, he says, "No troth I'se carry it to Charly & hel not part with it again Mon!" He is dressed an an English gentleman, though his language indicates that he is a Scottish Jacobite; he is perhaps intended for some unpopular Scot, perhaps Wedderburn, then attorney-general. Behind the king's chair America, wearing a feathered head-dress, watches the scene; he says "We in America have no Crown to Fight for or Loose." In the foreground (right) sits Britannia asleep, her head resting on her hand; by her side lies the British lion, also asleep and chained to the ground. At her feet are two maps, one of "Great Britain" (torn) lies on one of "America". On the left stands a man in rags with bare legs and dishevelled hair, clasping his hands together and saying "I have let them quietly strip me of every Thing"; he appears to represent the British commercial community. An Irishman next him, a harp under his arm, walks away saying "I'le take Care of Myself & Family". A tall, thin gentleman in a military uniform walks across a mountainous landscape carrying on his back an obese parson with a "Tithes" basket full of chickens and a sucking-pig under his left arm and a scourge with three lashes in his right hand. Behind them and in front of his sheaved harvest stands a farmer dressed in a smock, with a branch in his right hand and his hat in the left. He says, "We Farmers have our Bodys Eat up, for the good of our Souls."

Abstract:
"North (left) in the guise of a badger, runs off leaving a little cave under a rock. Charles Fox as a fox (right) snarls at him ... The badger is identified as North by a ribbon tied round his body, and by the four points of the compass in a circle on his head, his snout being inscribed "North". The fox stands over a bag inscribed "Faro Bank" from which guineas are pouring, playing-cards are strewn on the ground at his feet. In the foreground is a small bundle inscribed "Budget" within which are bars inscribed "Soap" and a small barrel inscribed "Small Beer" in allusion to the taxes proposed by North in his budget speech of 11 Mar. Behind the badger is a sign-post, the two arms of which terminate in well-drawn hands. The hand of the arm pointing left, in the direction to which North is running, holds the head of a halberd, the arm is inscribed "To Tower Hill". The other arm points downwards at the cave which the badger has left, and is inscribed "To the Treasury". Behind Fox is a terminal statue inscribed "Janus", one head being that of a bearded old man, the other that of a fox, it is crowned by a cylindrical headdress (?a dice-box) on which are two dice. The scene is a wooded landscape with hills. In the distance a hunt is in progress, a stag pursued by dogs; the foremost rider is the king, a minute figure who is falling from his horse after having leapt a gate. "A companion print to British Museum Satires No. 6790. Fox in the foreground (right) leans back disconsolately in a low chair; in his right hand is an empty purse, in the left 'Pitts Speech'. Beside him in his upturned hat are a dice-box and dice. On the left Burke, stripped to the waist, kneels before his three-legged stool on which is propped an open book inscribed 'Reform'; he is flagellating himself with a birch-rod held in his right hand, and a rosary attached to a cross in his left. Behind, as if seen in a camera obscura or through a window, North is embracing a young woman wearing tattered garments; above their heads is the view of an avenue inscribed 'St James's Park'."--British Museum online catalogue

Abstract:
"A bull, snorting ferociously, has tossed a Spaniard high in the air, a shower of coins falls from his pockets. The bull is attempting to charge a Frenchman and an American (right), the latter being an Indian brave, holding a spear and wearing a girdle and head-dress of feathers; they shrink back in alarm, the American sheltering behind the Frenchman. But the bull is checked by a Scot in Highland dress, who holds its tail saying, "Luton, a-Ho" (Luton being one of the estates of Bute). Bute's waist is held by North, who says "Bushey Park, a Ho" (North lived at Bushey Park, Lady North being the Ranger of the Park), and North's by Lord Mansfield saying "Caen Wood a Ho" (Caen (or Ken) wood being the estate bought by Mansfield from Bute. Cf. British Museum Satires No. 4885). In the foreground (left) a Dutchman sits grinning on a cask inscribed "Hollands Gin"; he is about to light his pipe with a burning paper on which is inscribed "? Fox, North, and Burke in a poverty-stricken room: North (left), seated in a low arm-chair, leans back yawning, arms above his head, legs stretched out. On the wall above his head hangs a broken pair of bellows, emblem of his Borean blast. Burke, (right), very thin, seated on a three-legged stool, is mending the breeches which he has taken off. Behind his head is a spider in the centre of a cobweb. Between and behind them stands Fox, in the attitude of an orator, right arm raised, rehearsing a speech and regarding himself in a cracked mirror (right) which reflects his anxious and gloomy expression. "A British and a French sailor addressing one another. The British sailor stands full-face, a club in his right hand, his left hand on his hip. He wears a crowned hat, a handkerchief knotted round his neck, and wide, knee-length trousers. He scowls threateningly. The Frenchman, very thin, stands facing him, in profile to the left; he grins, saying "Ha! Ha! we beata You": the Englishman answers "you Lie". The Frenchman wears a feathered hat, ruffled shirt, long trousers, and a cutlass. His hair is in a very long pigtail queue, tied with a bow of ribbon. Admiral Rodney is depicted receiving the submission of the defeated De Grasse after the Battle of the Saints, as English sailors bring ashore the spoils of war, and chagrined politicians Fox, Keppel, and the Duke of Richmond look on from the left, with Sandwich and North behind them. Contrasts the new ministry's hostility to the popular Rodney with the rewarding of the incompetent Keppel (Admiral "Lee-shore.").

Abstract:
Charles Fox, with a fox's head and tail and an expression of delight, holds open the top of a large sack almost completely filled with coins. Opposite him, Lord North, standing on a substantially diminished pile of coins, carefully adds another shovelful to the sack. The sack is signed, "For private use." Behind them on the wall, under the ribbon signed, "For the use of the publick," several smaller empty sacks hang on a rope stretched between large pegs. Under the title is a verse, "Two virtuous Elves, / Taking care of themselves."

"Shelburne (left), as the kettle, looks at Fox (right), the porridge-pot, who is running away. Shelburne's body is in the form of a kettle, much blackened underneath; the handle, attached to his chest and shoulders, extends over his head. He has a complacent smile and holds out his hands, pointing towards Fox; his left foot is on the neck of a goose, which lies on its back on the ground. He is saying, "Oh do but look how black his Arse is!" Fox (right) with the head of a fox, his body a large circular pot, blackened underneath, is running away with an alarmed expression, his hands held up, his tongue hanging out. In the centre of the design, between the two figures is a sign-post, its arm, pointing to the right, is terminated by a well-drawn hand holding a die in its fingers, but pointing with its fore-finger in the direction in which Fox is running. The arm of the post is inscribed "TO BROOKS'S"; from it hangs a rope with a noose at the end of it. On the post is hung up a placard inscribed "To be Lett- either as a Gibbet or Direction Post". Abstract:
Sir Thomas Rumbold is depicted vomiting his ill-gotten wealth into a chamber pot decorated with a thistle. Kneeling beside it and embracing the chamber pot is Henry Dundas, Lord Advocate of Scotland who oversaw the prosecution of Rumbold in 1782-3. Rumbold's ankles are chained to two weights signed "Sureties," a reference to restriction on his leaving the country before the case was dropped in 1783. He is supported by his son, Captain Rumbold of 1st Life Guards, dressed in his regimentals and wearing a gorget. Behind them, an Englishman gallops on an elephant saddled with an enormous bag signed "Roupees." An Indian sitting behind him is holding a tall parasol above his head

"A midshipman, no longer young, in shirtsleeves, sits on a padlocked chest blacking a boot. He looks straight before him with a tragic expression. He wears his regulation top-hat, blue trousers, neatly patched, and waistcoat over a white shirt, and sits on the midshipman's coat which he has taken off. On the ground at his feet are a tray for blacking-brushes, a pot labelled Warrens Blacking 30 Strand, a broken dirk, top-boots, and shoes. Behind are houses on Tower Hill, with the moat.
