Description:
John Nevin King served in the Mexican War and in 1850 went overland to California, where he served in the Quartermaster's Department and did some prospecting for gold before joining the Northwest Boundary Survey in 1857. During the Civil War he served with General John G. Parke, afterwards returning to the Northwest where he became Chief Commissary officer of the Department of Oregon. and Manuscript captions on mounts. Civil War tax stamps (1864-1866) on some mounts.
