The second stanza has title: An Madame Mara zum frohen Jahresfeste. Weimar 1831. Both stanzas were written in 1831. Written on a discarded leaf of a letter to Goethe, one side already had been used by him for jotting down some notes. The text is almost indecipherable. Printed in Weimar Ausgabe, v. 4, p. 298.
