- Manuscript on paper (coarse, some deckle edges) of Varro, De lingua latina. The scribe of Marston MS 82 carefully recorded in the margins the lacunae by giving the number of missing leaves in the exemplar.
- Description:
- Belonged to the library of the Princes of Liechtenstein. Purchased from H. P. Kraus in 1955 by Thomas E. Marston., Binding: Fifteenth century, Italy. Parchment stays adhered to inner and outer conjugate leaves of quires. Original sewing on three tawed skin, slit straps laid in channels on the outside of boards and nailed. Plain wound, natural color endbands are sewn on tawed skin cores laid in grooves on the outside of the boards and are tied down over strips of green tawed skin. Quarter bound in dark brown leather over beech boards with a leather strip nailed along the edge. One fastening, the leaf-shaped catch on the lower board, the upper board cut in for the clasp strap. Title, in ink, on fore edge: "Marcus Varo. De Lingua Latina"., Plain blue initial, 3-line, on f. 1r; plain red initials, 2-line, at beginning of books; headings in red, ff. 25r, 83v only. Remains of guide letters for rubricator., Script: Written in humanistic cursive script, above top line, by a single scribe who added marginalia, foliation (1-52 only), and Roman numerals for running headlines (ff. 1-30)., and Watermarks, in gutter: similar to Briquet Chapeau 3373, Main 10637; unidentified mountain surmounted by a cross and five-pointed star in a circle.

- Binding: Sixteenth century (?), Italy. Stays made from parchment manuscripts adhered inside of quires and outside of first and last ones, the pastedowns included. Original, wound sewing on three tawed skin, kermes pink, slit straps laced into paste boards. The endbands, caught up on the spine, are sewn on tawed skin cores laced into the boards. Covered on greenish tan tawed skin (sheep?) with corner tongues and the remains of two tawed skin ties. Remains of title scratched on upper cover "Logica Paul*"., Purchased in 1955 from L. C. Witten by Thomas E. Marston., Red or blue initials, poor quality, 7- to 3-lines, with penwork designs in red, blue and/or black. Headings, paragraph marks and line divisions between segments of text, in red., Script: Written by several scribes in a humanistic bookhand that exhibits various gothic and cursive features, above top line., and Watermarks, in gutter and obscured by parchment binding stays: unidentified mountain and animal (?).

- Manuscript on paper of La Sfera, by either Gregorio Dati (1362-1435), or Leonardo Dati O.P. (1360-1425). A contemporary hand has numbered the Books in the following way: Book I (f. 1r): “Terzo”; Book II (f. 7r): “Quarto”; Book III (f. 13r): “Primo”; Book IV (f. 19r): “Secondo”. and Script: copied by a single hand in Southern Gothica Semitextualis Libraria; the first majuscule of each strophe written between the double bounding lines. The four books open with a 3-line red plain initial with or without interior reserved shapes.

- Binding: Date?, Italy? Backs of quires cut in for sewing. Plain limp vellum case with holes in each cover for two ribbons., Crude penwork initials on f. 1r in red and blue, 3-line. The first incorporates a five-pointed star in red, with blue dots, and terminates with a full-length marginal border in inner margin. The second incorporates a fleur-de-lis. Other plain initials in red and/or blue throughout. Headings and strokes on paragraph marks and majuscules in red., and Script: Written by a single scribe in small, cramped and highly abbreviated gothic cursive. Art. 6 added by two different hands.
