"Lord Eldon sits at a high desk above a table, with mace, &c., at which two barristers are writing. He raises his arms in astonishment at the sight of a still (left) inscribed 'The Q--n's Double Destlled [sic] Essence of Bergamot' [with 'ot' scored through and replaced by 'i']; from this the Queen's head emerges, facing the head of Bergami, which issues from an arm of the still. This is surrounded by smoke and stands on a bench, behind which on a low platform stand Louise Demont and Majocchi, pointing at the object, the latter saying: "Non me Ricordo." A barrister, probably Copley, stands near them, saying: "It's a strong proof but froieng [sic] brew'd and out of our power to discover the Makers." Eldon, dropping his pen, says: "This is cuesed [sic] strong it is certainly doubled proof of their Private works." A profile (? Liverpool) leans forward from the left margin, saying: "My L--ds he can swear to the Smell and Taste." Peers, some astonished, some amused, are seated on benches between Chancellor and witnesses. Heading to a printed broadside in support of Queen Caroline, with a depiction of the Queen in the upper left, riding in a chariot pulled by a lion under a banner reading "Innocence and Triumph." The Italian witnesses against her are being led in chains to the gallows, the man at the back of the line remaking "This is past a joke O! Majocc"; a hangman smoking a pipe awaits them at the top of a ladder, noose in hand. Three figures with bags over their heads are already hanging, with a fourth hanged figure being fed by a devil with a pitchfork into the flaming mouth of a demon on the right, a "Green Bag" falling into the flames next to him. Another victim is skewered by a second devil standing inside the demon's mouth; the words "Milan Commission Receiving Office" are written amid the flames. "An adaptation of British Museum Satires No. 11904 (1812), by Cruikshank, reversed, with Lady Conyngham replacing Lady Hertford. The open barouche, with four galloping horses and the Cupid postilion, is closely copied. Behind the carriage, as footman, General Bloomfield replaces McMahon. Conyngham replaces Hertford on the donkey, with the antlers, dress, and (incorrectly) the staff of office of his predecessor. He says: "How fortunate am I to have a Handsome and Cunning wife or I should not wear those marks of Distinction!" Lady Conyngham repeats Lady Hertford's words: "We have had a glorious ride my Love! It is worth Half a Crown" [cf. British Museum Satires No. 13826]. George IV: "My Cunning-one I have not Half a Crown to give thee, Would that I had." The Devil drives, as before, but sits alone, instead of beside Lord Yarmouth; a long barbed tail has been added. The 'Female Asylum' (for discarded mistresses) is similarly drawn but less ramshackle; the women looking from the windows are altered; Lady Hertford replaces Mrs. Fitzherbert: the words are as before, but '. . . his Poor F' becomes 'his Poor H'. On the roof, in place of two cats as supporters of the inverted feathers and coronet, are three cats with a (heraldic) scroll and a chamber-pot. The tail of the procession (Sheridan and the wagon 'For Yarmouth . . .') is omitted. He is clean-shaven, his whiskers, inscribed 'Transferred Whiskers', form a border to a bald head, giving the effect of a tonsure. She is décolletée, dressed in white, with white drapery from her head, suggesting a travesty of a nun (cf. British Museum Satires No. 5177). He says: "Speak freely thou Cunning-one, and by St George, I will give thee Absolution--(let me see) a Faux-Pas, is no deadly sin, and loving other men, it is our duty to love each other." She says: "Since my Conversion (Holy Father) I feel much lighter you have put a new conscience into me." They are large half length figures, hiding much of the background. "The King and Queen are tied together back to back, by a ribbon inscribed 'The Matrimonial Knot. Keep thee only.. unto her, so long as ye both shall live.' The Queen (left), richly dressed and with three feathers in her hair, stands looking towards Justice, who takes her right hand. She says, her hand on her breast, "Nothing but death shall e'er divorce my dignities" ['Henry VIII', III. i]. Justice stands among clouds; she says: "Your exemplary conduct is worthy imitation, as during your husband's ill treatment every effort you exerted to reclaim him, which failing, the world must approve your seeking refuge in the wholesome and protecting laws of your country.--I will be your guide." Brougham stands on the extreme left, poorly characterized but holding a rolled document inscribed 'To Mr Brougham'; he says: "Let slanderous tounges [sic] say what they will they are "Trifles light as air" ['Othello', III. iii] for "She is every inch a Queen." [Adapted from 'Lear', IV. vi]." The King leans against the bond that joins them, straining hard to break it; he puts his hands on the shoulders of Castlereagh who holds him round the waist, the first of a chain of three who pull hard to help him to break loose. There is but little trouble in tying the knot, but your quizzes of the cloth draw it so d----nd tight, Pull away Derry, Pull away Deary Pull away Doctor." Sidmouth tugs at Lady Hertford (or Conyngham) whose arms are round Castlereagh. Castlereagh answers: "If we could entice that blind Lady from her, we might do some good." "The King and Queen are tied together back to back, by a ribbon inscribed 'The Matrimonial Knot. Keep thee only.. unto her, so long as ye both shall live.' The Queen (left), richly dressed and with three feathers in her hair, stands looking towards Justice, who takes her right hand. She says, her hand on her breast, "Nothing but death shall e'er divorce my dignities" ['Henry VIII', III. i]. Justice stands among clouds; she says: "Your exemplary conduct is worthy imitation, as during your husband's ill treatment every effort you exerted to reclaim him, which failing, the world must approve your seeking refuge in the wholesome and protecting laws of your country.--I will be your guide." Brougham stands on the extreme left, poorly characterized but holding a rolled document inscribed 'To Mr Brougham'; he says: "Let slanderous tounges [sic] say what they will they are "Trifles light as air" ['Othello', III. iii] for "She is every inch a Queen." [Adapted from 'Lear', IV. vi]." The King leans against the bond that joins them, straining hard to break it; he puts his hands on the shoulders of Castlereagh who holds him round the waist, the first of a chain of three who pull hard to help him to break loose. The King: "Heigho! how to get un-married; thats the question! There is but little trouble in tying the knot, but your quizzes of the cloth draw it so d----nd tight, Pull away Derry, Pull away Deary Pull away Doctor." Sidmouth tugs at Lady Hertford (or Conyngham) whose arms are round Castlereagh. Castlereagh answers: "If we could entice that blind Lady from her, we might do some good." "Heading to an engraved broadside. A servants' ball in the Pavilion, the musicians in the gallery being Ministers (left to right): Sidmouth and Liverpool play a duet at a square piano, gaping at each other; Eldon blows bagpipes; Castlereagh plays a harp. George IV waltzes with a fat, plainly dressed cook; he says: "How poor a thing may do a noble office!" A black footman dances with a fat lady; another lady dances amorously with a fat footman. One courtier (Bloomfield) dances with and embraces a fat cook, another has a more elegant partner. In the foreground stands Lady Conyngham (left), distressed and alarmed, her husband's antlered profile is just behind her; both wear coronets. She says: "Ah! with his scullion! Titles & rank are my defence But what can save her insolence!" He says: "If he has turn'd up my Wife I indeed may say--[citing Wolsey] "Farewell a long farewel to all my greatness!"" "Queen Charlotte, an ugly old woman, sits enthroned on a dais (right), facing the Regent, who stands, wearing a royal robe over fantastic dress, with a turban-coronet surmounted by tall feathers. Three lean and ugly ladies-in-waiting stand round the dais, one proffering a huge box of 'Royal Snuff' [cf. British Museum Satires No. 12066], into which the Queen avidly dips her hand. The Regent asks: "Madam I am at a loss what to tell the allied-soveriegns, if they should make bold to ask how and where is my R--l Wife?" She answers, holding snuff to her nose, "I/ advise you my Son, to say as little as convenient, or d--n it; say I am your R--l Wife." The arms of her throne are formed of fanged snakes, and the dais is polygonal, with concave sides; the shape perhaps signifying the Queen's crabbedness. Behind the Regent stands McMahon, burlesqued and obsequious, but grinning slyly. Behind him and on the extreme left stands Lord Yarmouth, much amused, who asks: "Mc What say you to all this." She says: "We the humble and Loyal Married Ladies feel ourselves bound in due veneration to your most sacred person to present to you our sincere thanks for the many tokens of Love we the Loyal Married Ladies have laid under and we humbly acknowledge the favours our Husbands as [sic] experienced through the medium of us the Loyal Married Ladies!!!--" Behind her, a second lady, resembling Lady Hertford, looks startled. With them is a third, perhaps Mrs. Quentin. Behind the throne, which he clasps, stands Hertford (or Conyngham, cf. A very plump young woman in a bonnet stands in a park leaning forward into the wind ; her skirt is blown tightly around her backside and above her knees. Two foppish looking men eye her with amusement, the one using an eyeglass, the other holding his hat and wearing a long braided coat. Another couple on the right, struggle with an umbrella in the wind. Like the woman on the left, this woman's dress is also blown above her knees; her companion is dressed in wide trousers tied at the ankles. Between these two scenes, in the distance, a young woman walks along a rail toward the left struggling against the wind; a little black footboy follows her holding the hem of her skirt and her reticule. Abstract:
"A plump young woman stands with feet together bending before the wind, and holding down the short (muslin) skirt of her high-waisted décolletée dress. The wind makes it define her plump posterior and she says, "La, Bless me how cool it is." Her brightly coloured ankle-boots have a border of swan's-down. Two absurd fops walking close behind inspect her with amusement, one using an eyeglass says: "It is certainly more gratifying to view, than the Regents Bomb!!!!!!" [see British Museum Satires No. 12799, &c.]. The other says: "I think she intends it as an opposition, to that in St James's Park." One wears a long braided coat to the ground, the other loose trousers and narrow coat-tails which blow round his legs. Both wear stocks, collars, small hats, and fluffed-out hair like those of the dandies in British Museum Satires No. 12840. On the right a couple walk off to the right, in difficulties with an umbrella. The woman's dress is well above her knees; the man wears wide trousers tied in at the ankle, and coat-tails like streamers of ribbon. Farther from the spectator, and walking from right to left is a young woman followed by a little negro foot-boy. She holds on her bonnet, and holds down her very short skirt in front, saying, "What a rude wind this is, old [sic] fast behind Mung." He holds down the hem of her skirt, and carries her reticule; he answers: "Yes, Miss'e I wont let Loose if you dont." "The Queen (left) and King sit side by side on a double throne, almost back to back, while turning their eyes warily towards each other. They wear royal robes, the King is caricatured; at his knee is a rosette in the centre of which a bottle is depicted; he holds orb and sceptre. She is comely but stout, her dress unduly defining her figure. The Archbishop, gross and bloated, stands behind the throne, sourly placing a large crown on the King's head. The Queen, who holds a fan, says: Oh! the Brute, but I'll teaze him.
