Abstract:
A plebeian family of 'cits' drive in a rough two-wheeled cart (aping a fashionable gig) drawn by a clumsy carthorse. The man drives, wearing cocked hat and top-boots; his wife, wearing large feathers in her small straw cap, holds up a fan. Both are absurdly complacent. A boy and girl are crammed in. Behind rides a fat and grinning footman, with plodding dog. On the extreme right a newsboy with the 'London Gazette' blows his horn. Behind (left) is an open doorway inscribed 'Mash Brewer'; within are casks. The wall is inscribed 'Puddle Dock', and on it are two bills: 'Theatre Royal Covent Garden the Comedy of the Bankrupt with High Life Below Stairs and A House to be let in Grosvenor Square Suitable for a Genteel Family' (they appear to be bound for this house).

Abstract:
An innkeeper uses a bellows to clear heavy dense tobacco smoke from the tavern interior in response to a servant trying to identify his master in the crowd. The innkeeper proclaims "You say you want a little gentlemen in a brown wig. I have really so much smoking business in my parlour that 'till I make use of the bellows I can never distinguish a customer, I believe that is the gentleman you mean." The servant excitedly responds in a Cockney dialect "Yes, Yes, sure enough that be Master, but before he vanishes again, tell him that Missis has sent the street door key."

Abstract:
A footman leads a parson and six prospective suitors that have arrived in response to an advertisement for a husband posted by an 'old maid'. The bachelors include a Welshman, a Scotsman, and a doctor that offer flatteries while waiting, "Splutter hur, how pretty she looks, she pe [sic] a nice wench", "Leave a Scotch laddie alone for carrying off the sillar", and "From my conscience, she looks like a Venus of medicine!" respectively. The footman leans forward to shout into the elderly woman's ear trumpet, "Please your ladyship all these gentlemen be[?] come about an advartisement [sic] for a husband and to lose no time they have brought the Parson with them; please your Virginship what am I to say to em?" The elderly woman responds, "Say to them, why the men are mad, if I was so inclined do they think I would marry six husbands at once!!" Abstract:
Two fashionably dressed poets sit at a table ladling a drink into small glasses. Twelve lines of verse below design: No more shall we sneak, or fearfully speak, lest coffee house critics should snap off each nose, for all shall be witty, ingenious and pretty, the bays are our own, since we've got some new cloathes!! What tho! we want coin, let us never repine (tis one of a bards hereditary woes) so I'll fill up each glass, then quick let them pass, and a fig for the rest, since we've got some new clothes!

"Plate 1: One of a set of eight plates, all with three bordered horizontal strips (catalogued as a, b, c), evidently intended to be cut up to form a border, as BMSat 9488, &c. The B.M. impressions [catalogued by M.D. George in 1942] have been cut, each plate divided into two and arranged haphazard. [The titles and imprints have been taken from A. de R. vii, 32-47. The last three prints were published in 1801 but have been included to avoid dividing the set.] The figures are grotesque, with large heads, arranged generally in groups, their speeches etched above. The satire (sometimes pointed) is generally social, occasionally political. The centre group is a forestaller in corn being tossed in a blanket by four men; three spectators applaud. "The subjects include the long-winded parson, the incompetent barber, the boastful soldier, the lawyer, the 'cit' and dancing-master, the doctor, the board of excise. The lawyer says: "I maintain it Sir - the Law, is equally open to the poor as to the Rich -", the answer: "So is the London Tavern, if you have the Money to pay for it!" The original remark was by Judge Ashhurst, [In his famous Charge to the Grand Jury of Middlesex, 19 Nov. 1792, on the perfection of government where 'no Man is so high as to be above the Reach of the Law, and no Man so low as not to be within its Protection'.] the repartee is attributed by Rogers to Horne Tooke ('Table Talk', 1887, p. 125). Another familiar remark here illustrated is that of the African slave who answers "One thing at a time Massa if you please, - if you floggee - floggee - if you preachee preachee - but no preachee and ftoggee too" (illustrated by G. Abstract:
A gathering of countrymen, lawyers, and sailors stare with shock and consternation at the carcass of a shark laying on a table before them. A countryman begins the dialogue with an exclamation, "Dang it if I ever saw such a thing in my life, why it would swallow a man alive!" while an attorney continues with a question, "Neighbor Stump says very true, I never saw anything like it in the whole course of my practice as a country attorney. Pray my friend what do you call it?" A sailor smugly jests, "Why it is a shark d'ye see according to the lubbers lingo on shore, but we gemmen in his Majesty's service call him a sea lawyer!!!

On the left, the Duke of Bedford, in a farmer's smock, unloads deer from a wagon in front of an open gate to a park. One of his deer, with a French cockade outlined behind its ear, faces a royal deer with a crown sketched on its shoulder. The King watches Bedford through a spy-glass from a window of the gatehouse on the right. Alarmed that the new arrivals will ruin his herd, he orders foreign deer out and the gates closed immediately. In the wall below the window is a closed door with a knocker in shape of a face, possibly Pitt's.

Abstract:
A young, fashionably dressed man walks down the street while sweeping his walking stick back in forth in front of him. He has struck a passerby on the shin, the latter holding the injury in both hands wincing in pain. From the caption: ... who must always remember when in action to sing or whistle a tune, in order that the swing may be kept in proper time. By carefully observing these rules, great execution may be performed on the ancles [sic] and shins of every person within the sphere of attraction

Abstract:
A pretty, well-dressed girl steps into a hackney coach from the left while the coachman in blue coat doffs his hat. He stands facing left by the door and on the extreme left stands the girl's mother wearing a huge hat and carrying a muff. Ms. inscription below title: "This is the most fashionable coach on the stand says a pretty young lady stepping into me with all the hilarity of soul that distinguishes the cheerful children of prosperity; after whom followed an elderly lady her mother." A countryman, with companion horse and dog, stands outside of a city gate pleading with two guardsmen to permit him entry. His plea begins, "Hollo! you Master Whiskers don't keep me here in the cold all night. If you want to know who I am I tell you I am an Elector for Middlesex!" One guard responds, "Elector of Middlesex!! I never heard of that elector before, he must be a great man, open the gates immediately."

Abstract:
Napoleon's brother Joseph presents himself as King of Spain to a reulctant and resisting crowd of Spanish citizens and soldiers and is flanked by disheveled French soldiers dramatically supporting Joseph. The Spanish crowd responds to the announcement with a series of defiant exclamations, "He was [?] attorney and we'll soon eject him from Spain", "Though a woman I am determined to resist", and "Yes commrade and for our chattels too if I guess right". Joseph, ignorant of the recalcitrance, wears a crown, cape, medallion and spreads his arms while saying, "For this kind and flattering reception much thanks, behold the brother of the great Napoleon come to reign over you for your goods." The French troops, incredulous at of the Spanish resistance, exclaim, "Will no one huzza will no one ring the bells, if you don't make a noise you shall all fall by the royal bayonet" and "Vive le Roy, huzza!".

The surface of a platform stretches across the design; on this Pitt (right), valiant but anxious, faces the massive Russian bear, Paul, behind whom stands a stout ferocious-looking Russian soldier (like a showman with a performing animal), nearsightedly reading a document: 'Be it known to all men, - that my master, - the most Magnanimous [see BMSat 9415] most puissant, most powerful and most wonderful great Bear of the north - being in his sound and sober senses - Challenges the Whole World to single combat - and commences his first trial of skill, here in Moorfields, after which it is his intention to persue his Travels, and visit every Court in Europe - Asia - Africa - and America'. The bear wears a plumed crown, a collar inscribed 'Paul Bruin', to which are attached the massive links of a chain. His drawn sword is 'Temper'd-á-lá-Suwarrow!' On his shield is a grotesque head with gaping mouth, and the inscription 'Swallow All O.' Pitt wears a plumed helmet and light armour. His sword is 'Temper'd á-lá Nelson', his shield is inscribed 'Howe', 'Duncan', 'Nelson', 'Jervaise' [St. Vincent], 'Warren', 'Parker'. The platform is surrounded by a dense and jovial crowd. The windows and roofs of the adjacent houses are crowded with tiny waving figures; a boy sits on the high wall before a bunding inscribed 'Moor Fields' and probably intended for Bedlam
