In Latin., Script: Copied by one hand in small Southern Gothica Textualis Libraria under Humanistic influence (frequent use of Half-Uncial d), highly abbreviated., Heightening of the majuscules in yellow; headings in red. 1-line plain initials alternately in red and blue, with guide-letters, in the text (art. 2); 2-line plain initials alternately in red and blue, with guide-letters, placed half way in the text-block, except in col. a of the verso pages, where they are placed entirely in the margin. Running titles in red on most pages., Badly mutilated with missing folios., and Binding: ca. 1900 (before 1912) by P. Verburg in the workshop of Douglas Cockerell and in the style of the latter's bindings. Blind-tooled brown morocco over cardboard, with braided leather ties (defective) attached to the front cover and metal catchpins; hinges and back rubbed. Gilt edges.

In Latin., Script: Part I (ff. 1-46): Written in a variety of scripts ranging from gothic bookhand to batarde. Part II (ff. 47-168): Written in elegant late caroline/early gothic bookhand., Part I: Initials, dates and headings in red. Part II: Two decorated initials, ff. 47r and 129r, 6-line, in red, green and blue. Decorative headings in brown ink touched with red and green, or red touched with blue. Small initials, 4- to 1-line in red, some with foliage scrolls in red or contrasting color. Headings in red., First part of the manuscript has been extensively patched and repaired., and Binding: Fifteenth century (?), France. An early resewing on three double, twisted, tawed skin supports laced into wide grooves in oak boards and pegged with rectangular or square pegs. Covered in brown sheepskin with corner tongues, blind-tooled with diagonals in an outer frame. Spine leather wanting. Leather on boards much worn.

Yellow heightening of the majuscules. 1-line flourished initials alternately red and blue. Numerous 2-line flourished initials in the same colours. 3-line dentelle initials with partial floral borders in gold (on f. 56r with bar-shaped extensions, on f. 57v no border)., The manuscript is heavily mutilated, some leaves are out of order and many (presumably all illuminated) leaves are cut out., and Binding: Nineteenth century. Light-brown leather over pasteboard; the covers gold-tooled with floral border and centre-piece. Gold-tooled spine with four raised bands. One large modern silver clasp attached to rear cover. Edges gilt and gauffered.

In Latin., Script: Copied by various hands in Iberian Praegothica., The original sections (articles 1, 2, 7 and 8) have red headings and red decorative line-fillers; 1-line plain initials and numerous 2-line (sometimes 3- or 4-line) plain or flourished initials or litterae duplices intermingled. Many round initials such as C, D, O, Q are filled with a human face ("face initials"); in art. 7 some initials I are zoomorphic and take the shape of a fish (ff. 127r, 134r). Red and purple initials normally alternate. Art. 4 has red initials. The remaining articles are undecorated., Lower edge of many leaves damaged, with loss of text. The final pages worn and smudged., and Binding: ca. 1800. Limp parchment with remains of two leather ties. On the spine the hand-written title "Charta charitatis, liber usuum et institut. Ordinis S. Bernardi. M.S." At the bottom of the spine a label with the handwritten modern number "1280".

In Latin., Script: With the exception of f. 1r apparently copied by one hand, writing Southern Gothica Semitextualis Libraria; f. 1r, in the same type of script, is by another more rapid hand and is perhaps palimpsest., Headings in red added afterwards, with instructions for the rubricator in Gothica Cursiva in the margins (the headings are missing from f. 91r onwards). Red plain initials, 2-3 lines, sometimes with simple flourishing. A few pointing hands and Nota-marks., and Binding: Original deerskin over bevelled wooden boards. On each cover four small brass bosses. Four similar bosses at the four corners of the spine and at the attachment of a white leather strap attached to the front cover and clutching with a decorated brass piece over a pin in the rear cover. The front paste-down is a fragment of a 14th-century Latin grammatical treatise in two columns.
