Pettis's letters to his wife Annie describe the army posts, towns, and the difficulties of frontier duty in a time of limited communication and erratic pay. Included are the descriptive rolls of the men recruited by Pettis, giving rank, age, size, description, place of birth, occupation, and enlistment date, with, in some cases, notation as to cause of death.

Manuscript on paper, in a single hand, of 78 poems by Jane Cavendish. Many are addressed to family members, including one titled "On my sweete brother Charles," another called "On my Noble Uncle Sr Charles Cavendish Knight," and several to her father, as well as others addressed to her sisters, mother, grandparents, and the King and Queen. There are also poems on passion, the "chamber-mayde," and "A noble lady." The manuscript includes a poetic dialogue by her sister, Lady Elizabeth Brackley Egerton, Countess of Bridgewater, titled "A Pastorall," with a cast of witches, country wives, and shepherds, and which is preceded by a verse dedication to their father, William Cavendish, Duke of Newcastle. The manuscript as a whole is prefaced by a dedication by Jane Cavendish to him.

The scrapbook, likely compiled by Edward Fayette Eldridge's daughter Jennie though inscribed by her father on February 15, 1913, reuses a 300 page ledger originally used to record undated accounts of treatments and charges for Eldridge's patients. Clippings, printed ephemera, and other materials are pasted in from page 47 to page 81 of the ledger. Items include: clippings of Eldridge's poems published in Grand Junction newspapers; clipped newspaper articles by and about Eldridge, including obituary notices; business and calling cards for Eldridge, his daughter Jennie, and her husband, Denver chemist E. T. Herrmann; a psychographic profile of Eldridge; and postcards and pamphlets printed with Eldridge's poems.
