Art. 1 is decorated with red plain initials, more or less small decorated initials in various colours and large initials. Art. 3 has a title in mixed Capitalis/Uncialis. The part of art. 4 copied by hand B has some highlighting in yellow, red or green and plain initials; the part copied by hand C has a few plain initials; the 12th-century part copied by hand D has red headings with instructions in small script written in the outer margins, plain or flourished Romanesque initials and an explicit in decorated mixed Capitalis/Uncialis. Art. 5 is undecorated apart from its title and the opening initial. There are effaced drawings in the lower margins of some leaves in art. 1., Binding: Twentieth-century. Between ff. 13 and 14 a page is missing which contained Dialogi I, 9, 8-13. 2) Sulpicius Severus, Sermo de transitu sancti Martini = Epistula III, 16-21. The beginning is missing. 3) Unidentified sermon for the feast of a Confessor in the Common of the Saints, containing 7 (?) Lessons. Above the line a twelfth-century hand has repeatedly identified the saint with St. Aderaldus archdeacon of Troyes (d. beginning of the 11th cent.). 4) Gregory the Great (Gregorius Magnus), Dialogi, Book IV. 5) Vita S. Symeonis Stylitae. There are more than five scribes: A (Carolingian script with very imperfect word separation, s. X2); B (large and bold Carolingian script, s. X2); C (smaller Carolingian script, very close to B, or same hand); D (Praegothica, s. XII); E (various hands writing Praegothica and succeeding each other at irregular intervals)., and T. E. Binding: Nineteenth century, Italy. Quarter bound in tan paper with semi-limp paper sides. Written, in ink, on spine: "De Scientia/ Loquendi/ Tacendi/ Manos" and "Albertani/ Pergomena". On parchment leaves at front and rear: rust stains from five bosses and 2 fore-edge fastenings of an earlier binding., Initials for major text divisions in red with designs on parchment ground, 18- to 4-line, and some (e.g., f. 28r) with modest penwork designs in red and/or black. Small plain initials, 3- to 1-line, rubrics, and paragraph marks, in red., Purchased in 1954 from B. Rosenthal by Thomas E. Martson., and Script: Written by a single scribe in an informal gothic bookhand, below top line.

Description:
Binding: Fifteenth century, Italy. Original sewing on three tawed skin, slit straps laid in channels on the outside of wooden boards and nailed. The spine is lined with leather between sewing supports. Covered in brown sheepskin with corner tongues and blind-tooled with concentric frames, one filled with rope interlace, and a rope interlace square on a point in the central panel. Annular dots are colored with gold or copper, now green. Spine: very faint diapering with triple fillets. There are five round bosses on each board and two fastenings, leaf-shaped catches on the lower board and the upper one cut in for fabric straps. The front board is detached; one boss wanting., One illuminated initial of poor quality, gold, 3-line, on blue, green, and pink ground. Rubrics and marginal key words (for ff. 1r-6r, 31r only) in pale red. Plain blue intials in art. 2; red or blue elsewhere., Purchased from C. A. Stonehill in 1955 by Thomas E. Marston., and Script: Art. 1 in a small and regular Greek minuscule script; arts. 2-6 in humanistic cursive script, below top line, by a single scribe who also added marginalia; art. 7 in humanistic cursive by a different scribe.
