In a possible burlesque of West's Death of Wolfe, a "wounded" Fox lies supported by his followers. He is held in the arms of Admiral Keppel, as Burke in monk's habit offers him a glass, and Mary (Perdita) Robinson applies smelling salts. North is to the right, swooning with grief and supported by Portland, while Sheridan kneels to the right in front of John Cavendish. Behind Fox at the far left the Prince of Wales kneels to kiss Perdita's unoccupied hand. A satire on the defeat of Fox's India Bill.

"Lord Chatham (left) flies across the Channel towards the English coast on a wooden horse, mule, or ass with feathered wings. Two little puppets labelled 'Dutch Dolls' are placed before him on his saddle. From two ends of a rope passing across the animal's back fly out (left) five dismantled ships inscribed 'Castles in the Air Wooden Ones', and (right) three large labels inscribed respectively: 'Walcheren Beveland'; 'Plan and Fortifications of Flushing'; 'Loss in Killed & Wounded Sick List'. The animal emits a blast from its rump inscribed 'Rockets Devil take the hindmost'. Chatham, with drawn sword, blandly addresses John Bull and his wife who stand on the shore (right) looking up at him: "Here I am my Dear Johnny escaped from Fire, Water, Plague, Pestilence & Famine My Fireworks have given general Satisfaction abroad-I must now Couch on a bed of Roses [see British Museum Satires No. 10558, &c]- and hope when I awake to be rewarded with a Pension and Dukedom for brilliant Services". John, a fat 'cit', holding out a cudgel and clenching his fist, says: "General Cheathem flying back as I foretold garnish'd with dross and Dutch Metal Where is the Ten Million of British Bullion you Scarecrow-the Sinking Fund suits your talents better than Sinking of Ships". His fat wife, holding up a little parasol, exclaims: "Lord Mr Bull what a Man of Mettle it is". Sailing towards land is a small vessel, a sail inscribed 'Commodore Cur-Tis'; the only occupant is Curtis, waving his hat and shouting: "A New Contract for Mouldy Buisciuts-Expeditions for ever Huzza". On the horizon (left) land is indicated, with buildings and a flag; above are the words 'Mortality at Flushing'."--British Museum online catalogue.

Abstract:
The papers consist of correspondence, maps and documents relating to two delegations led by John Coffee to negotiate with the Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations. The first delegation (in 1829) was to gather information on a Cherokee and Creek boundary dispute. Two autograph letters, signed, from Secretary of War Lewis Cass and one retained copy of a letter from Coffee to Georgia Governer John Forsyth describe this mission. Two manuscript maps (stored in a portfolio) document the disputed Cherokee boundary lines. A related memorandum summarizes Cherokee and Creek boundary treaties. Coffee's second mission (in 1831-1832) was to negotiate with the Chickasaw and Choctaw nations regarding "emigration," as outlined by two autograph letters, signed, from Cass and one autograph letter, signed, from John Eaton (former Secretary of War who led the negotiations with Coffee). The Chickasaw reaction to these negotiations is documented by two letters: one from sixteen members of the Chickasaw Nation protesting plans for removal, and one from tribal leader George W. Long relating to plans for Chickasaw people to remain. Other documents include records of expenses incurred by Coffee and Eaton during the mission. The papers are accompanied by a pamphlet about and photograph of John Coffee's tomb.
