- Abstract:
- A composite manuscript written in different locations and periods: Part I was written in Italy in the first half of the 14th century; Part II was probably written in England (or Northern France?) at the end of the 13th or beginning of the 14th century. The index was added on blank leaves in Italy in the 14th century, perhaps at the same time that Parts I and II were joined together to form the present codex. and Manuscript on parchment composed of two distinct parts. Part I: 1) Brief prologues to the Pauline Epistles, paraphrasing or extracted from the argumenta of Haimo of Auxerre, Expositio in epistolas Sancti Pauli. 2-4) Notes for sermons arranged according to the liturgical year. Part II: 5) Unidentified sermons. 6) John of Wales, Breviloquium.

- Binding: Nineteenth century, England. Backs of quires cut in for original sewing. Brown calf case, blind-tooled., Part I: Red initials, 3- to 2-line, with crude harping designs in black; headings and paragraph marks (art. 3) in red. Instructions for rubricator. Part II: Flourished initials, 3- to 2-line, alternate red and blue with penwork designs in the opposite color. Paragraph marks alternate red and blue; headings, often added in margin, in red. Remains of guide letters for decorator., Purchased from C. A. Stonehill in 1958 by Thomas E. Marston., and Script: Part I (ff. 1-24): Scribe I copied ff. 1r-6v in small gothic bookhand with southern features; Scribe II copied ff. 7r-24r in a somewhat more angular gothic bookhand; additions by different scribes on f. 24r-v. Part II (ff. 25-78): Arts. 5-6 copied in small neat gothic bookhand, by a single scribe; some marginalia added in anglicana script (e.g., f. 46v); art. 7 added in a less careful gothic bookhand.

- Binding: Fifteenth century (?), Italy. Limp vellum case, restored., ff. 22 loose., Final leaf (now foliated 96) misbound between ff. 93-94., Script: Folios 1-96 written in littera bononiensis; ff. 1-22 written in a less formal Gothic bookhand. Numerous annotations in the margins by contemporary and later hands., and Two miniatures, f. 1r, an enthroned pope holding an open book and symmetrically flanked by ecclesiastical and secular parties, and f. 96r, a Franciscan monk presenting a book to an enthroned pope with clerical and lay attendants. Full border for text on f. 1r, constructed of solid panels, gold and red with white filigree, filled with two karyatid figures, a cleric, and a man in a blue robe. Partial border in lower margin, 3 medallions in blue, pink and red, with a papal portrait in half length, an angel, and a third subject now effaced. The medallions are connected by lozenges, green, blue and red with scrolling vines in blue, red, and green with white filigree and gold dots. 32 marginal figures in various costumes, among them several clerics, knights and an angel, often in animated poses. Numerous illuminated initials, 6- to 3-line in pink, blue or grey on blue, red, pink and gold grounds with white filigree. Foliage serifs in pink, red, grey and blue with white highlights. 39 initials with bust-length figures. Remaining initials in pink and red with white filigree. Calligraphic initials, alternating in red and blue with blue and red penwork scrolls. Plain initials and paragraph marks alternate in red and blue.

- Manuscript on paper of an unidentified treatise, incomplete, on the Cardinal Virtues; material taken mostly from Valerius Maximus, with additional material from Augustine, the Bible, Cicero, Seneca, Macrobius, Aristotle, and Vegetius. and Unidentified treatise, incomplete, on the Cardinal Virtues; material taken mostly from Valerius Maximus, with additional material from Augustine (De civitate Dei, De beata vita, Epistolae), Bible (Proverbs), Cicero (De officiis, etc.), Seneca (Epistolae morales, De ira, De constantia), Macrobius, Aristotle, Vegetius, the "Storie Romane" of "Arineo" (f. 6r), and "Salino" (f. 23v). The presence of the "versificatore" (f. 11r), cited in Latin (Walther, Sprichwoerter 33507), and a similar constellation of sources suggest that Vincent of Beauvais' Speculum Doctrinale was a major (though not exclusive) source for this author.
