" 'The way to attain' is a translation of a portion of Béroalde de Verville's 'Le moyen de parvenir'. Mr. Machen afterwards made a more or less complete translation, which was issued under the title of 'Fantastic tales' [in 1890].", "Of 'The way to attain' only one copy was printed on demy octavo paper"--cf. H. Danielson, Arthur Machen, a bibliography, 1923, p. 15., Caption title., and In case 24 cm.
Ascribed, on doubtful grounds, to Robert Greene. The 1638 edition ascribes the authorship to T.G., who has been wrongly identified with Thomas Goffe (born in 1591!). and Described in W.W. Greg, A bibliography of the English printed drama, London, 1939, vol. 1, p. 215, no. 130(A1).
