Reversed copy of the first print in the Hogarth's series "Four Times of the Day. The setting is a morning in Covent Garden; in the center of the image, a middle-aged woman walks from the right towards St. Paul's church; the clock on the tower showing 6:55. She is followed by a servant boy carrying her prayer book under his arm as he tries to warm his hands in his pocket and jacket. St. Paul's is partially hidden behind a tavern identified by a sign reading "Tom King's Coffee House." There is a fight in the doorway, one man losing his wig as it flies out the door. In front of the tavern is a fire where two couples embrace as two women warm themselves, the one reaching out to beg of the well-dressed woman; two large baskets with vegetables sit behind the women, with carrots and mushrooms in the right foreground. To the right, in the middle distance, a small crowd, including two small boys with school bags on their backs, surrounds a man holding a placard advertising a remedy known as Dr. Rock's.

Copy of the fourth print in the Hogarth's series "Four Times of the Day. Set at the intersection of Rummer Court and Charing Cross, Le Sueur's equestrian statue of Charles I can be seen in the background. It is the anniversary of the Restoration of Charles II (29 May, known as "Oak Apple Day"). In the foreground a drunken freemason (probably the corrupt magistrate Sir Thomas De Veil) is supported by a serving man. Behind them a man pours gin into a keg. To the left a barber is seen at work through a window; each pane of the shop window contains a lit candle. From a window above the barber shop, a chamber pot is being emptied onto the top of a wooden shelter under which a man and woman sleep. Beside them, a link boy crouches as he blows on the flame of his torch. Behind and to the right of the freemason, the Salisbury Flying Coach has crashed and overturned while trying to avoid a bonfire in the middle of the street; the passengers reach out the window of the coach, alarmed looks on their faces.Two men look on, one of whom appears to be a butcher. "Satire on John Rich and his new theatre in Covent Garden with a procession moving from left to right across the east end of the market square and entering the colonnade leading to the theatre. John Gay is carried on a porter's back preceded by a crowd, one of whom cries "Gay for ever". He is followed by Rich, as Harlequin, driving an open carriage drawn by six satyrs, with Columbine and a spotted dog (a disguise adopted by Rich as Harlequin in "Perseus and Andromeda", 1730). Two authors bow obsequiously to Rich, another wheels a barrow of plays towards the theatre, bootblacks also bow, but in the lower right-hand corner, Alexander Pope defecates on sheets from the Beggar's Opera (the great triumph of Rich and Gay). Actors in costume, some identified in the verses below, follow the carriage, and a cart containing properties including "A Box of Thunder and Lightening", brings up the rear. "Satire on the jockeying for position of the European powers in early 1740. A race-course on the sea-shore with a variety of animals and riders representing different countries: first comes Cardinal Fleury (France) falling from his fox which has stumbled at the winning post on "[Baron] Sinclair's papers". Behind the fox stands the devil holding a sheet of paper with a picture of five ships, lettered "Baltic Sea", an allusion to the French failure to form an alliance in that region. The devil pulls down one of the scales hanging from the umpire stand; the heavier scale represents the Imperial allies with swords, coins, a picture of the Imperial eagle and a note reading "ballance of power", while the lighter one holds objects connected with France and Spain, a cardinal's hat, mask, fox, and notes of "50,000 livers" and "10,000 pistoles" as well as a paper lettered "Mediation". On the umpire stand, America is in conversation with Africa while Europe embraces Asia for the sake of "Protection [of]Trade". Further to the left stands Captain Jenkins holding out his severed ear. Behind Fleury's fox runs the Spanish wolf, its rider unseated by the British lion's lashing tail, lettered "No Search Free Trade". The Russian bear, ridden by a man with a scimitar, follows; the bear kicks its hind legs at the Turkish elephant that is draped with a cloth lettered "Belgrade" in reference to the recent ceding of that city to Turkey. The sultan stands behind the elephant, offering a bag of money to a Frenchman wearing a bag-wig; a monkey also wearing a bag-wig, representing France, crouches in front of the bear. A Dutchman, smoking a pipe, stands beside a distance post having abandoned the race; his boar is laden with trade goods. Behind, on the left, the devil and a fool lead a group of Roman Catholic bishops, roped together, towards a closed building labelled "Conclave" where they will elect a successor to Pope Clement XII. In front of them seven men representing the European powers are seated at a round table with papers lettered "Alliance" and "Sinclair"; Cardinal Fleury turns aside towards another devil asking, "Extricute me now & I'm yours for ever". Further forward, a British herald, supported by classical female soldiers, blows a trumpet; beside them Fleury raises the front of his robe attempting to catch billowing smoke, lettered "Universal Monarchy". In the foreground, Time sits on his hour-glass holding a paper with a picture of a wolf dressed as a cardinal; rats chew at the bottom of the sheet; Fortune looses her grasp of Theodore of Corsica who throws his orb after his crown as it flies off on outspread wings; a British bulldog savages a Spanish wolf while a French fox runs off behind a bush; Captain Coram shows the plan of the Foundling Hospital to a woman and child seated on the ground; a Catholic ecclesiastic wrings his hands saying, "Ye have taking away my Gods, what have I more"; a man bends down to lift a chest full of "10000 pieces of Eight"; Emperor Charles VI rides on an eagle towards the finishing post, holding a shield with the British coat of arms in front of him while a shield with the fleur-de-lis falls to the ground; he is preceded by Charles Albert of Bavaria, fully armed on horseback, and carrying a shield with the motto, "Never conquered"; in front of him, a French ambassador kneels pleading with the British lion who tramples on a shield with the fleur-de-lis and prepares to fire a cannon. At lower right, Britannia pushes aside France (a woman in classical dress with a helmet, and a cock at her side holding out a paper lettered "Mediation") and points to a map showing the island of Cuba offered by a British herald and a sailor. In the background, to left, is the bay of Cadiz in which the Spanish fleet is shut up, British ships sail freely on the sea; a nymph holding a pennant lettered, "Quatuor Maria Vindico" (I claim the four seas), rides a dolphin; beyond are the island of Cuba and distant mountains. Frauds detected in drugs, and in the other a scroll inscribed: "We are all in the dumps, our bill is rejected and flung out." Under the apothecary's "belt," formed by the barrel's hoop, is secured a paper inscribed "Quincys Dispensary." The utensils making up the figure are numbered, and the key identifying them is engraved below the image of the figure. The whole is enclosed in an ornamental cartouche. "Satire on Italian opera singers and their female admirers, a copy in reverse of British Museum satire no. 1694. Senesino, tall and ungainly, stands a quayside, recoiling from the effusive farewells of two ladies, one holding a handkerchief to her eyes; a number of gentlemen raise their hats and one bows low; two other men stand behind, one with a walking stick and a cloak over his arm. To the right, two servants, one a black man, carry a board, labelled "Ready Mony", piled high with bulging purses; Two jeering men to the right of the original print do not appear. Printed above a song mocking ladies crying at the departure of Senesino with music 'Set for ye German flute &c.'; illustration to 'The Musical Entertainer'."--British Museum online catalogue
