- Abstract:
- "The stage, flanked by the stage-boxes, extends across the design, the base of which is the orchestra, where the new Ministry perform. George III has stepped on to the stage from the royal box (l.) and confronts Napoleon, who stands arrogantly upon clouds and points to an enormous scroll held up by Talleyrand. This stretches across the cloud to rest on the stage. The Emperor, in uniform, with spurred jackboots and wearing a large, feathered bicorne, holds a sword in his right. hand and says fiercely: "There's my Term's." The King, who wears uniform with a small cocked hat and buckled shoes, holds his sword against his shoulder. He inspects the scroll through his glass, saying: " - Very amusing Terms indeed! - and might do vastly well with some of the new-made little Gingerbread kings [see BMSat 10518] - but WE are not in the habits of giving up either "Ships, or Commerce, or Colonies", merely because little Boney is in a pet to have them!!!" The scroll is inscribed: 'TERMS OF PEACE - Acknowledge me as Emperor - "mantle your Fleet, - Reduce your Army - Abandon Malta & Gibraltar, - Renounce all Continental Connection - Your Colonies I will take at a Valuation, - Engage to pay to the Great-Nation for 7 Years annually £1.000.000. and Pace in my Hands as Hostages the Princess Charlotte of Wales, with Ten of ye late Administration whom I shall name.' Talleyrand kneels on one knee, displaying a deformed l. leg, on a cornupia which rests on the clouds that support Napoleon. He wears a long gown with a rosary (denoting the ex-Bishop of Autun); a pen is behind his ear. From the cornucopia papers, money-bags, and coin pour down on to the stage. The papers are: 'Address to the Papists'; 'Loan to the - ['Prince' implied, cf. BMSat 6945]; 'To the United Irishmen'; 'To the London Corresponding Society'; 'The Press'; 'The Argus'; 'For the Whig Club'; 'To the Army; 'To the Navy', 'To [the] Volunteers'. Money-bags are labelled: 'Maynooth [word illegible]', 'Horne Tooke', 'Morning Chronicle', '[Cobbett's] Weekly Register', 'Thelwall.' Immediately behind Talleyrand, and also on the Napoleonic clouds crouch Arthur O'Connor, looking down conspiratorially at Fox in the orchestra below. His words extend in a long label towards Fox: "Remember m Friend your Oath, - " Our Politicks are the same!"" He holds a paper: 'at Maidstone Not Guilty - N.B - my Confederate Quigley only, was Hanged there.' Behind Talleyrand and O'Connor three desiccated corpses wearing French Grenadier's uniform hold up three eagles to each of which a banner is attached: 'Army of England', 'Army of Ireland', 'Army of Scotland'. Their caps are decorated with an 'N' surmounted by a crown. Behind them bayonets recede in perspective, their holders hidden by the peace scroll. ..."--British Museum online catalogue.

- Abstract:
- "A wildly burlesqued rendering of the Middlesex candidates and their supporters. In the foreground (l.) a group from Westminster heads the procession. Sheridan and Hood ride a galloping dray-horse with blinkers and flying chains; Sheridan holds the rein, waving his hat (with a favour inscribed 'Hood') and straddling across a pannier filled with coins and labelled: 'Subscription Malt & Hops from ye Whitbread Brewery'; from his coat-pocket projects a pamphlet: 'Neck or Nothing a New Coalition'. Hood sits behind him in naval uniform, with sword and top-hoots ; he waves his cocked hat triumphantly; its favour is 'Sheridan for Ever' [both favours are blue and buff]. The horse's hind-legs kick the chest of a donkey from which Paull (Burdett's outrider) falls backwards, dropping shears, cucumbers, goose (iron), and a paper: 'Impeachment . . . Marquiss Wellesley' [see BMSat 10561, &c.]. He is dressed as a tailor as in BMSat 10608. A savage dog, the collar inscribed 'P. Moore', barks at him (see BMSat 10619). lhe dray-horse gallops over prostrate members of Burdett's mob, a fat woman, prostrate and ragged, who drops an almost naked infant, and a sheaf of ballads: 'Paul & Plumper[s]' [see BMSat 10608]. Next her a butcher lies on his back, dropping marrow-bone and cleaver; his hat, with wig inside it, is on the ground. Four other butchers, still erect, are about to be ridden down. All their cleavers are inscribed 'Burdett for ever', the favours in their hats are 'Burdett'. On the extreme left. a hideous ragged crone and a small girl bawl from the ballads they hold: 'Burdett is the Man for ye Ladies'. Their hats have 'Burdett' favours. ..."--British Museum online catalogue.

- Abstract:
- "Napoleon is the London street-seller of gingerbread cakes whose wares and patter made him a long-remembered character. He stands in his bakery vigorously drawing out from the arched aperture of his oven a broad shovel (peel) on which are figures of three kings in royal robes holding orb and sceptre. They are 'Bavaria', 'Wirtembg (very fat), and 'Baden'. The keystone of the arch is inscribed 'New-French Oven for Imperial Gingerbread'. Napoleon, in profile to the right., wears a feathered cocked hat and a white apron over uniform with jack-boots. Behind him is a heap of cannon-balls, with a shovel inscribed 'Fuel'. Under the oven is a second and larger arched opening: 'Ash-hole for broken Gingerbread'. Broken and discarded cakes have been swept into it by a broom: 'Corsican Besom of Destruction', which lies on the ground against a (gingerbread) galleon flying the flag of 'Venice', a crowned skull inscribed 'Spain', a boot inscribed 'Italy', a Papal tiara, a staff and cap of 'Liberty', a figure, face downwards, showing heavy posteriors in bulky breeches inscribed 'Holland'; two fragments, 'Switzerland' and 'Netherlands'; a Habsburg eagle, inscribed 'Austria', the crowns falling from both heads; a tricolour flag, inscribed 'vive le Republique Francois' from whose shaft falls a bonnet rouge. There are also sceptres, a rosary, a coroneted skull, a fleur-de-lis. In the foreground (l.) is a round double-handled basket, from which protrude the heads of men and women puppets wearing crowns or coronets and holding sceptres. It is labelled: 'True Corsican Kinglings for Home Consumption & Exportation'. Beside it lies a cornucopia in the form of a fool's cap edged with bells and inscribed 'Hot Spiced Gingerbread! all hot - come who dips in my luckey bag'. From it pour crowns, coronets, orders, stars, sceptres, a cardinal's hat, three documents with pendent seals inscribed respectively 'Principality', 'Pension', 'Dukedom'. On the extreme right. is a solid chest with three drawers inscribed respectively 'Kings & Queens', 'Crowns & Sceptres', 'Suns & Moons'. On it stand unbaked figures crowded together: 'Little Dough Viceroys, intended for the next new Batch!' In the front row: Sheridan, Fox, Moira, Derby. Behind are Burdett [This is confirmed by Lord Holland. Stanhope, according to Wright and Evans.] and (?) Tierney. All wear coronets and hold sceptres. Behind (l.), Talleyrand, with his back to his master, bends over a large 'Political Kneading Trough' handling heaps of a yeasty mass inscribed 'Hungary', 'Poland', 'Turkey'; in the r. corner of the trough is a portion inscribed 'Hanover', which is being devoured by a crowned eagle with a collar inscribed 'Prussia'. Talleyrand wears a mitre over a tricolour cap and a bag-wig; a stole and robes looped up to show a bandy leg and a surgical shoe (incorrectly on the left foot) In his mouth is a pen; a rosary and an ink-pot hang from his waist."--British Museum online catalogue.
