Abstract:
Henrietta Slater McIntire (daughter of Nelson and Emily Slater) was born in California in 1851. She married John A. McIntire of the Sacramento grocery firm of Booth and Company.
Collection of cartes-de-visite and tintypes relating to John Nevin King, mostly studio portraits of other members of the Northwest Boundary Survey, King's family, and Civil War era portraits. Photographers from the Midwest, the Northeast, Ireland and Australia are represented. There is also a single outdoor image of two unidentified men
Description:
John Nevin King served in the Mexican War and in 1850 went overland to California, where he served in the Quartermaster's Department and did some prospecting for gold before joining the Northwest Boundary Survey in 1857. During the Civil War he served with General John G. Parke, afterwards returning to the Northwest where he became Chief Commissary officer of the Department of Oregon. and Manuscript captions on mounts. Civil War tax stamps (1864-1866) on some mounts.

Two photograph albums and loose photographs found in them. All the photographs are portraits, of Alfred Tennyson, Henry Taylor, Charles Darwin, Holman Hunt, Thomas Hughes, W. G. Palgrave, G. F. Watts, family members Julia Duckworth Stephen and May Prinsep, as well as neighbors and servants on the Isle of Wight. Accompanied by several photogravures of Alfred Tennyson printed after his death.
