Abstract:
Miscellaneos theological works by Múšē bar Kípā (Moses bar Kēphā, 813?-903), a Syrian Orthodox prelate and scholar, born in Balad (modern Eski Mosul, Iraq), as follows: 1. "On Paradise" (folios 1a-124a; pages 1-249). 2. "On the resurrection of the body", 34 chapters (folios 124b-186b; pages 250-373). 3. "Commentary on the words of Paul demonstrating the resurrection of bodies and the manner of resurrection (folios 186b-205b; pages 373-411). 4. "Words of comfort concerning children (folios 205b-208b; pages 411-417, ten chapters). 5. "On the Antichrist" (folios 209a-214a; pages 418-428, twelve chapters). 6. "Admonitions for the sons of the Holy Orthodox Church" (folios 214a-218b; pages 428-447, ten chapters). 7. "Mysteries of the tonsure of monks" (folios 218b-221a; pages 447-452, ten chapters). 8. "On the origin of the Syriac word 'dayrā' (monastery)" (folio 221b; page 453). 9. "Homily on the tonsure of monks" (folios 221b-224b; pages 453-459). 10. "Biographical note on Bar Kēphā" (folio 224b-225a; pages 459-460). 11. "On the end of time" attributed to Pseudo Methodius (225a-241b; pages 460-482). The text of "On Paradise" was copied by Joseph, a student of the Monastery of Mār Ḥanānyā (Dayr al-Zaʻfarān), on Thursday, 3 Nīsān, 1536 of the Greeks (1225) at the "little monastery" (dayrúnítā) of Mār Barṣawmā in Kfartútā (between the villages of Bagdāšiyā and Ḥašrē) in the region of Merdo (Mardin).

In Latin, French, and Middle English., Decorations include a half-page initial on f. 43r (six other half-page initials have been cut from the manuscript) and illustrations of the labors of the months in the calendar., The back flyleaf has, in two fourteenth century hands, a French song "Une bon chanson ay troue" and a Middle English carol "Mayde and moder, glade thou be.", On the calendar page for December, St. Thomas of Canterbury's name has been erased from its place, indicating English ownership at least in the sixteenth century., and Binding: dark brown calf skin over pasteboards (sixteenth or seventeenth century).

In Greek., Script: archaizing scribal hand., Scroll composed of seven vellum sheets, written on both sides in single columns., Titles are written in gold. Each prayer begins with an illuminated initial, also outlined in gold. There is a gilded ornamented tailpiece., Note, in Greek, in a sixteenth-century hand, at the end of the text, attributing the manuscript to the Royal Monastery of Docheiariou., and Schøyen MS 662.

In French., Script: Written by one scribe in batarde, usually one line below each staff, but sometimes text written on every other line of the staves., The style of the Chansonnier's initials points to one of the ateliers active in the service of Ferrante I of Naples, in particular to the shop of Matteo Felice. One 2-line initial (f. 1r) tan, shaded purple and green, with curling floral serifs, blue and puce, filled with curling leaves against burnished gold and blue, with white filigree, against gold ground, framed in blue with white filigree; short, 3-stemmed flowers, gold, with brown hair-spray stems project from upper serif and midpoint; 3 gold dots with hair-spray symmetrically disposed around letter; floral border in outer margin, hair-spray stems with gold and green leaves and flowers, blue, purple, and gold at midpoint and terminals. One-line initials throughout, gold, infilled blue or purple, with white filigree, against irregular grounds, purple or blue, edged in black, with white filigree and two short flowering tendrils, as in border on f. 1v; often with a gold dot with hair-spray adjacent in outer margin., and Binding: 19th-20th centuries. Brown goatskin, blind-stamped, by Henri Marius-Michel of Paris (1846-1925), whose name is stamped inside the front cover. Not in his usual style. Included in the center front and back panels are monograms of Baron Joseph Vitta.
