Lavish decoration in Ghent-Bruges style. Rectangular line-fillers in red, blue, green and gold. Trompe-l'oeil initials (1 line, 2 lines, 3 lines (rarely), 5 lines) consist of twisted branches in mat gold projecting shadow on a square background in red, blue or green. Full-page miniatures are painted on the verso of inserted singletons and are framed by four-margin borders which have their counterpart on the facing text page. Text miniatures (height: 7-8 lines) are painted in regular quires and are accompanied by four-margins, mostly floral borders., and Binding: Partly original binding in blind-tooled brown calf by the Bruges binder Ludovicus Bloc (1484-1529). The original binding is inset in brown morocco by F. Bedford (?) On each cover a panel with eight animals in tendrils, surrounded by the inscription in Roman Capitals "Ob laudem Christi librum hunc recte ligavi Ludovicus Bloc", is stamped four times; between the upper and the lower panel imprints is a five-compartment frieze containing animals. On the modern blind-tooled spine gold-tooled modern inscriptions "HORAE / B.V.M. / TORNACENSIS" and "MS./ BRUGES / C. 1520". Gilt and gauffered edges. White parchment endleaves.

Gilt and gauffered edges., Headings in red. 1-line versals alternately in red and blue; 2-line flourished initials with marginal extensions alternately in red and blue, the penwork in the contrasting colour (the normal type of initials throughout the manuscript); 3-line flourished KL ligatures in art. 1; 5-line litterae duplices or initials in the style of litterae duplices with developed penwork at the opening of the various Hours in art. 2; 6-line ditto in art. 3; a 4-line flourished initial at the opening of the Mass of the Virgin in art. 5. In Latin., Script: gothica textura., Decoration: rubricated. Recto contains two two-line decorated initials and a spiky floral border. Verso contains one small decorated initial., and Contemporary annotation (textural addition?) in margin of verso, partially effaced.
The manuscript contains a book of hours, use of Sarum (ff. 1-138v), and a Missal (ff. 139r-236v). It was produced in England, in liturgical Gothic bookhand on vellum, in two phases. The first section, consisting of quires 1 and 3-18 (ff. 1-6, 17-83, and 86-137), was produced around 1390, perhaps in London. Around 1420 the manuscript was augmented with a second section, consisting of quires 2 and 19-31 (ff. 7-16, 84-85, and 138-236).
