"Two whole length figures. A woman (left) walks away from the man but looks round over her left shoulder. She wears a high conical cap trimmed with lace and ribbons, a hooded cloak over a voluminous skirt ornately embroidered at the hem. The man in profile to the left walks after her. His left hand holds a tasselled cane which rests on his shoulder, his right is thrust under his waistcoat. He is fashionably dressed with a laced hat, and his coat appears to have epaulettes."--British Museum online catalogue

A lady sits at her dressing table, her elaborate mountain of hair being combed by her equally coiffed hair-dresser who stands behind her. The lady turns to see her husband who has just entered the room in riding dress, his whip upraised. Behind him in the doorway, the housemaid, winking at the viewer, raises two fingers above his head. Two portraits hang on the wall in the background

A hairdresser stands on stilts to dress the hair of a lady who sits before her mirrored vanity, her fee outstretched and resting on a foot stool. He pulls her long hair high above her head to its full length is taut as he twists to style it. She holds the sides of her head in pain. His coat is tossed on the chair to the left. On her vanity are a pin cushion, bottles, and ribbons. The mirror is supported but two female figures in classical dress and adorned with two cherubs at the top who hold a laurel wreath
