"Two cats on garden walls approach each other menacingly. One (left) is white, with the features of Queen Caroline, the other a dark tabby with the features of George IV. Each miaows, raising an angry paw. The Queen is on a 'Party Wall', at right angles to that of the King. In the garden below is a placard, 'Malbrou'. She says: "Meyough you -- you have no business to go Caterwalling." He says: "Meyough you B-- you have no business to come so near me." Below the design: 'Like two Cats on a Wall; They Quarrel & Snarl, To amuse the Weak Minds of the Nation. "Print shows a man, the celebrated juggler, standing on a stage greeting the audience, sitting at his sides are two hurdy-gurdy players, one on a box labeled "Money Box" and the other on a box labeled "Quack Medicine." The stage projects from the back or side of a carriage with two panels that open to the right and left, each with two scenes, on the left, "shooting dint at yo inocent" (King George IV spraying Caroline) and "a bit of fun or a scene at Manchester!!!" (cavalry using swords to cut their way through a mob), on the right, "bank restrictions" (four people hanging from a gallows) and "Kinglike amusement" (the King(?) and bishop drinking). "The Duke of Clarence, knock-kneed and meanly malignant, stands in profile to the left, his back to the sea. He wears top-hat, tail-coat, tight pantaloons, Hessian boots, and gloves, holding a cane; under his foot is a paper: 'Honor [thy] Father & thy Mother.' At sea is a man-of-war with furled sails flying the Royal Standard. Below the title; 'Vide Mr Denmans Speech. Octr 25 1820.' Said to be a good likeness. "A parody of British Museum Satires No. 9752, Gillray's 'Dido in Despair!' The Queen takes the place of Lady Hamilton, in a similar pose but tearing her long black hair with more of rage and less of grief. She wears a bracelet on each arm, one inscribed 'BB' (for Bergami), the other 'MW' (for Wood). On the floor are gifts to the Queen. Her bare right foot rests on a large cake inscribed 'MW' on which are various emblems: a large crown, which she kicks over, busts of Wood, Bergami, Lieut. Hownam, and an unidentified person; also a goat, an ass, and a cat. This stands on a paper: 'Mr Trifle's Love to the Q[ueen]'. A huge round of beef is ticketed 'With Mr Suets Love to the Q--n'; with this is a roll of 'Cat's Meat'. A model of a pair of stays enclosed in a glass case stands on two papers: 'Glass-blower's Delight' and 'O stay my love my Cary dear'. A pair of breeches of metal is 'For Bat [Bergami] or Cat ad libitum from the Brazier[s]'. Caricatures lie near a pair of slippers inscribed 'BB'; the uppermost is of Bergami drinking at a table between Wood and the Queen. A book is 'Catalogue of Fancy Men'. The glass on the dressing-table is topped by a crescent; on it hang miniatures of Bergami and Wood (cf. No. 13858). The table is covered with decanters, one labelled 'Brandy' [see British Museum Satires No. 14175], glass, pill-box, and boxes of 'Rouge', 'Brick dust', and 'Court Plaister'. The curtains of the bed are fringed with gold and hang from a pelmet. In place of Gillray's open sash-window is a closed French window; outside is a landscape, with two asses, and a lake (Como) with a sailing-boat."--British Museum online catalogue

Abstract:
"Queen Caroline, not caricatured, wearing Bergami's miniature as in British Museum Satires No. 14103, &c., stands on the summit of a column holding out a paper inscribed 'R+G+NA still in spite of them.' Her left hand supports a medallion, inscribed 'Knight of Saint Caroline' [see British Museum Satires No. 13810], on which is a realistic bust portrait of Bergami, wearing an order, the head much larger than her own. Beside it on the capital stand two billing doves. The pedestal, which stands on a triple plinth, is inscribed 'This Column is intended to perpetuate the glorious adventures of an I - L - - T - - - - S F - M - - E' [illustrious female]. Two figures flank the pedestal, standing on the upper plinth: on the left the Princess, in scanty draperies as the 'Neapolitan Muse of History' [see British Museum Satires No. 13890, &c.], holds an open book: 'Boccaccio illustrated.' On the right, in contemporary dress, and garlanded with roses, she is 'Columbine of Como' [see British Museum Satires No. 14120, &c.]; she wears a simple garden hat in which are three peacock's feathers, cf. British Museum Satires No. 13299, &c. This plinth is centred by a Maltese cross supported by lion and unicorn. Above the pedestal and at the base of the column crouch two satyrs holding between them a ribbon inscribed 'Order of Saint Caroline' [see British Museum Satires No. 13810, &c.] from which dangles a large Maltese cross; one holds up a bottle of 'Acqua Vita', the other a goblet of wine. On the column are five realistic little scenes, divided by captions on a spiral border, incidents of the Princess's travels as related by the witnesses against her. These are, reading upwards: '[Ri]ding to Jerusalem'; she heads the procession on an ass (see British Museum Satires No. 13918, &c.). 'In the Tent', she and Bergami on adjacent couches, see British Museum Satires No. 13818. 'Taking a bath'; Bergami fills the bath in which she sits (see British Museum Satires No. 13819). 'On board the Polacre' [see British Museum Satires No. 13818]; Bergami sits on a cannon embracing the Princess who is on his knee. 'Returning with pillow'; she walks from a room in which Bergami lies (see British Museum Satires No. 13822, &c.). Above, and at the Princess's feet, is the inscription: 'Pleasures obtained with 30.000 Per annm'. The column is flanked by a trophy of eight banners, with inscriptions, all surmounted by emblems of societies which had supposedly presented Addresses to the Queen (cf. British Museum Satires No. 14119). On the left: 'Ladies Address--Birds of a Feather signed Queens Own'. This is surmounted by a crouching satyr-Cupid aiming his bow. Next, surmounted by a brush: 'Chimney sweepers--who says touching makes dirt.' Next, a banner with two white favours topped by a handbell: 'Honble Company of Dustmen--Dust-Ho!' Last, the flag of the 'Taylors NB Patches put on', is surmounted by goose (bird) and shears. On the right a tattered flag supports a pair of breeches: 'Breeches Makers--Where does honour lie.' Above this, a flag inscribed 'Nightmen call it Filth Tis Cleanliness' is surmounted by a lantern and a bundle of rods. Next, a large white flag is inscribed 'Bricklayers Plaisterers and Whitewashers', and is surmounted by trowel, hod, line, and level. A flag with the butchers' emblem, marrow-bones and cleaver, is inscribed 'Procumbit humi bos Bergamo'. The whole is flanked at the base by two figures: Wood (left), wearing a furred gown, and with a long staff, shouts, holding up a huge cocked hat inscribed 'Un-Adulterated'; on hat and breast are enormous white favours; in his pocket is a paper: 'A powerful Substitute for Malt & Hops'. On the right a ragged newsboy blows his horn; he holds a sheaf of 'The Times', and on his hat are a large favour and a paper: 'Glorious News'."--British Museum online catalogue

Abstract:
"George IV, dressed as Henry VIII and with cavalry boots decorated with rosettes, sits on the throne (right), shrinking angrily from oxen wearing civic gowns who bow, presenting petitions. All the horns of the oxen are tipped with tiny caps resembling caps of Liberty; a slightly larger pair protects the prongs of a fork held up on the extreme left above the massed heads of the beasts. On this a placard is speared: 'Petitions from every Part of the World--(Hole's and Corner's excepted) to Dismiss the Ministers-- signed by upwards of 999,999--Millions of the Brute Creation.' The petitions of the four beasts in the front row are headed: 'Petition of Lord Mayor & Citizens of London to Dismiss Ministers'; 'Petitions from every part of England & Wales to Dismiss Ministers &c &c &c'; '. . . ions from every Part of Scotland to Dismiss Ministers &c &c &c'; 'Petitions from every part of Ireland . . . [ut supra]'. Hooves rise from cattle behind holding more petitions: 'from Europe'; 'From Asia'; 'from Africa'; 'from America'; 'from every Honest Man'. The canopied throne is raised on a dais of three steps, the footstool is a cushion supported on a (carved) elephant; but the King's feet are drawn back. His right hand is on his hip; he holds an oddly shaped sceptre in the left hand. The back of the throne is framed by carved mannikins with shackled hands and feet; a large crown rests on the heads of the two uppermost. The back of the canopy has a pattern of writhing serpents. Ministers, much caricatured, stand on the right and left of the dais. In the foreground (right) and on the King's left, Wellington, with the apron and steel of a butcher (as in British Museum Satires No. 13288), with gauntlet gloves and with a star on his tunic, holds a blood-stained battle-axe. Sidmouth, as Court-fool, sits in profile to the left on an apothecary's mortar, wearing a double-peaked fool's cap and a star, and holding a bladder which is his clyster-pipe. Behind is Eldon, scowling savagely and holding the mace and the Purse of the Great Seal. A bishop holding a crosier stands on either side of the throne, behind the Ministers. A staff supports an emblematical cask which a naked Bacchus bestrides. On the King's right is Liverpool, holding a tall staff to which a green bag is tied (see British Museum Satires No. 13735). Next him is Castlereagh, blandly sinister, holding a scourge, and with a bunch of keys hanging from his belt; he stares at the petitioners. A tiny Vansittart is beside him, in his Chancellor of the Exchequer's gown, with an 'X' on his breast above a chequered pattern, hung diamond-wise. Immensely fat and absurd beefeaters stand along the back of the room under quasi-Gothic windows of stained glass. All hold tridents and turn their eyes towards the petitioners, grinning grotesquely. Each window is centred by an escutcheon on which a decanter is the chief object. The upper part of each is filled by a design of three large peacock's feathers (see British Museum Satires No. 13299). The Gothic roof, caricaturing that at Carlton House (cf. British Museum Satires No. 11727), is filled with tracery in the form of antlers."--British Museum online catalogue

Abstract:
"George IV (three-quarter length), surrounded by admiring Ministers, holds up a big extinguisher made of paper and inscribed 'Speech from the Throne', which he is about to place over a crowd of tiny Jacobins who surround the Queen and Alderman Wood. All these 'Lilliputians' are on a round table, whose top forms the base of the design except on the right. The terrified Jacobins fall on to papers inscribed 'Libels', 'Address' [twice], 'Sedition'. Alderman Wood steps on the back of one in a frantic effort to escape with the Queen whom he holds in his arms. She is a fat virago, holding up a fire-brand (cf. British Museum Satires No. 13895) inscribed 'Sedition', whose smoke rises into the extinguisher, and a large money-bag, '50 000 per Ann', labelled 'Crumbs of Consolation'. Other Jacobins flee to left and right, escaping the extinguisher, but either falling calamitously from the table, or about to be grasped by the hand of Eldon who sits at the table (left). They have banners and caps of Liberty on poles (or pikes). Among the fugitives is a Don Quixote (left) in armour, wearing Mambrino's helmet, galloping off on horseback, holding a banner. A terrified Jacobin (right) drops a 'Tailors Adress'. Ministers watch the approaching extinction with pleasure: Eldon has a grim smile, Sidmouth and Castlereagh behind him register, one eager delight, the other bland satisfaction. Wellington (right), close behind the King, smiles triumphantly, Liverpool beside him, is in profile, surprised, pleased, and imbecile. The King, three-quarter length, is a cynical Adonis, in military uniform. Behind his head is a framed picture: an irradiated sun containing features dispels dark clouds, putting bats, serpent, owl, &c., to flight; beside it is a dark disk containing the features of the Queen, in eclipse (reversing the situation in British Museum Satires No. 14012)."--British Museum online catalogue

Abstract:
"The King and Ministers, as domestic servants in déshabille, surround a rush-light, trying, with fierce intentness, to blow it out. The flame of the light encloses the head of Queen Caroline wearing her feathered hat; the rush is supported on a saveall formed of the head of Wood [Brougham, according to Reid, who is incorrect in some of the other identifications], and placed in a kitchen candlestick standing on a rectangular table. The centre figure is Eldon, his Chancellor's wig formed of a pair of breeches. He leans sideways and the King, wearing a night-cap, looks over his shoulder, blowing downwards. Next them is Wellington, whose blast is better directed than that of the others, but all miss the flame by blowing too low. On the left are two old women, Sidmouth, using his (green) clyster-pipe as a squirt, and Liverpool, whose night-cap is a green bag (see British Museum Satires No. 13735). Facing these are the Duke of York, next Eldon, and the Duke of Clarence on the extreme left, as a hideous black man, whose strong but ill-directed blast is inscribed 'Slander' [see British Museum Satires No. 14031, &c.]. Three other heads are in shadow, like the King; they watch with anxiety, but are not blowing; they are Castlereagh (left) and two women (right).
