Abstract:
Manuscript on paper of a pocket-size codex containing discussions of painting miniatures in manuscripts. On ff. 1r-30v Mariani provides a list of colors and the recipes for each color; in the remainder of the text he discusses techniques for painting landscapes in perspective. The second portion of the treatise (ff. 84r-95v) is, according to the title-page, the work of Antonello Bertozzi (fl. ca. 1590). The focus of this section is on painting watercolor portraits rather than on painting landscapes. On ff. 97v-113v, miscellaneous additions in at least 3 hands, dated 1612-1627

In Italian., Script: Written in upright humanistic bookhand for arts. 1 and 2 and for the headings in art. 3. Main text in a gently sloping italic script. Additions on ff. 95v-113v by several hands, some very cursive and poorly formed., Simple headpieces, in brown pen, for beginning of some chapters., and Binding: 18th-19th centuries. Rigid vellum case with a gold-tooled spine: "Mariani Della Miniatur [sic]".

Description:
In French., Script: Written by a single hand which has also annotated and captioned the drawings in a neat cursive sloping to the right, with the addition of passages in italic and chancery scripts., and Binding: Early, perhaps original, French binding of black morocco, the sides with triple gold fillet around the edges, a similar triple fillet forming a rectangular panel in the center of each cover with fleurons at the corners, the inside edges with a border of small tools stamped in gold, the back gilt compartments formed by five raised bands, modern title label on second compartment from top, some modern repairs with brown leather, including filling up the four holes on each cover which originally held ties, now missing; original gilt edges.

In German, Low-German, Latin, and Hebrew., Script: Written by a single hand in dark brown and pale red inks in a loose and flowing cursive, often with Fraktur elements, frequently placing capital letters in the midst of words, sometimes in red; with some inserted leaves and additional matter by another, perhaps slightly later hand, and with pasted-in leaves, usually with illustrations, partly taken from older manuscripts, and partly (apparently) by the compiler., Watermarks: The inserted leaves of paper with a large fleur-de-lys watermark, unidentified; the thinner paper used for most of the volumes with unidentified watermark in folds., With additions in German and Dutch., Bound in 2 volumes., and Binding: Uniformly bound in eighteenth- or nineteenth-century marbled boards, red leather backs with three bands, each volume with modern brown calf title labels gold-stamped "ALCHYMICAL MANUSCRIPT," speckled edges.

Abstract:
Manuscript, on parchment, containing the Penitential Psalms, the Litany of the Saints, the Psalms of the Passion, and other Latin prayers and devotions. The text is preceded by two pages of rubrics in Middle French; there are Middle English rubrics concerning indulgences on ff. 55-57. Several pages contain short pieces of music in the margins, probably in a contemporary hand and The manuscript also contains two miniatures not original to the text. The first (f. 4) is a full-page miniature of St. Christopher in color against a stylized landscape and a gold ground with a title sewn to the top margin, possibly predating its current binding by 50 years. The second (ff. 62b-63) is a double-page miniature of the Adoration of the Magi; the figures are outlined in ink and finished with washes in green, red and blue. Possibly intended as a pattern for embroidery or for wall-painting
