"Reissue of a print published by Humphrey, 25 June 1819. An enormously tall pole projects from a rocky mound seen against a background of sea and icebergs. A sailor with a Union flag has climbed nearly to the top; at the base is a little group of sailors, waving their hats, who have just scaled the mound. The mast slants across the deisgn backed by a sail bellying in the wind. W.B. [i.e. William Blockhead] sits miserably with closed eyes astride a spar, to which he has tied his right thigh. His right arm encircles the mast, and to his wrist is tied an open book: Wilt thou upon [the] high & giddy mast scale the ship[?] bays. O yes & rock his brain. Below is a dialogue between the Lleutenant and Blockhead

Abstract:
"Naval mutineers, seated and standing at a long table, glare ferociously at Admiral Buckner, who stands (left) calmly, hat in hand, in profile to the right at the foot of the table. The man at the head of the table, seated in a chair which is higher than the others, holds a blunderbuss and wears a hat. He must be Richard Parker, but does not resemble him. At his elbow and on the extreme right stands Thelwall filling a glass from a 'Grog' can; he says "Tell him we intend to be Masters, I'll read him a Lecture"; from his pocket hangs a paper: 'Thellwals Lecture' (see British Museum Satires No. 8685). One man only is seated on the president's left and on the near side of the table. He places a fist on a long paper headed 'Resolutions'. Under the table in the foreground, lifting up the tablecloth, five secret instigators are (left to right): Lauderdale, holding a paper: 'Letter from Sheerness to Ld L------le'; Horne Tooke, Stanhope, Grey, Fox, the most prominent, saying, "Aye, Aye, we are at the bottom of it", and Sheridan. All have satisfied smiles. Four ruffians are seated at the farther side of the table, others stand behind them; one aims a pistol over the admiral's head, one man smokes, another chews tobacco, taking a quid from his box. Weapons lie on the table. On the wall behind them are a print of Britannia head downwards, and two torn ballads: 'True Blue an old Song' and 'Hearts of Oak are our Ships Jolly Tars are our men We alway are Ready', the last word scored through. On the right the slanting window of the captain's cabin is indicated."--British Museum online catalogue

Abstract:
"The stern of one of the hoys from London to Margate, with passengers suffering from the effects of a fresh breeze. The steersman, leaning against the tiller, holds up a mug of frothing beer. The eight passengers are in various stages of distress and sea-sickness, except for a naval officer with a wooden leg who holds his wife's forehead and pours the contents of a bottle on her head; a sailor boy proffers a bucket to this couple. "A wide space leads to the harbour. On one side (left) is the corner of a large old clothes shop: 'Moses Levy Money Lent', with garments, &c., hanging from it. Opposite is the old-fashioned 'Ship Tavern'. Off shore are ships in full sail, boats are making towards them. In the foreground is a bustle of departure: baggage is being carried, casks are rolled, sailors and their women embrace or fight; a one-legged sailor plays a fiddle, a child plays with dogs. At the door of the 'Ship' an officer takes leave of his family; from the bow-window above spectators lean out, an officer using a telescope."--British Museum online catalogue

Abstract:
"Satire on the attempt to establish an Anglican episcopacy in the American colonies. A group of angry colonists push away from a quayside a ship named “The Hilsborough” (a reference to Wills Hill, Earl of Hillsborough, Secretary of State who had ordered troops to Boston in June 1768) On the ship is a large carriage with its wheels and a crosier and mitre beside it. A bishop is climbing the rigging saying “Lord, now lettest thou thy Servant depart in Peace” (Archbishop Secker who died in August 1768 had left £1000 to help establish a bishopric in North America). The colonists are shown as advocates of liberty of conscience and religious non-conformism: one waves a large book lettered “Sydney on Government”, another brandishes “Locke”; “Calvins Works” has already been thrown towards the bishop; another colonist waves a flag, topped with the cap of liberty and emblazoned with the words “Liberty & Freedom of Conscience”; a Quaker holds “Barclay’s Apology” saying “No Lords Spiritual or Temporal in New England”. A monkey on the quay holds a stone as if intending to throw it at the bishop. A paper lies on the ground lettered “Shall they be obliged to maintain Bishops that cannot maintain themselves”. "Midshipmen at table in a confined space, with a low roof, lit by a candle stuck in a bottle, which casts heavy shadows. They drink grog from tea-cups with a blue interior rim. Eight midshipmen sit at the table, bare except for a jug and bottle; of these two play cards, two sleep, one plays a fife. One of the card-players smokes a cigar and holds a handful of coins. A mishipman holds a lighted cigar to the face of his sleeping neighbour. A lieutenant drinks with the midshipmen. A ninth dances tipsily, holding cup and bottle; behind him stands a sailor playing a fiddle. A tenth, wearing a fur cap, struggles sulkily into a greatcoat before going on duty. A black boy stands against the wall grinning at the dancing midshipman. A steward (left) also stands against the wall, before recessed shelves containing a dinner-service.
