Abstract:
A man with a stag's head in a bag wig, saying "Alas my Friend Fox, We are in the wrong Box," shakes hands with a man with a fox's head, also in a bag wig, who responds "Indeed my true Buck. We have very bad luck." They represent, respectively, Lord John Cavendish and Charles James Fox who both resigned their posts after the collapse of the Rockingham administration

Abstract:
"A design in two compartments. [1] 'Billy, in the Devil's claws'. Fox as the Devil (left) grasps the thin and terrified Pitt round the waist, pointing with his left arm to a serried rank of French soldiers, landed from the boats of French men-of-war and marching up the steep coast. He is a grotesque hairy creature, short and heavy, with webbed wings attached to his ragged coat, a barbed tail and talons, and wearing a bonnet-rouge. He says, turning a glaring eye-ball on Pitt: "Ha! Traitor! - there's the French landed in Wales! what d'ye think of that, Traitor?" [2] 'Billy, sending the Devil packing'. Pitt kneels on one knee in profile to the right, holding up a paper: 'Gazette Defeat of the Spanish Fleet; by Sir John Jarvis.' He looks up at Fox with a contemptuous gesture and a subtly triumphant smile, saying: "Ha! Mr Devil! - we've Beat the Spanish Fleet what d'ye think of that Mr Devil?" Fox springs upwards with a terrified expression, his hands held up as if asking for mercy, his cap falls off and his tail is between his legs. Abstract:
"The Duchess of Devonshire, intoxicated, walks arm-in-arm between two supporters, the one on her right being Fox, the other one of his more prominent adherents. Sam House (right) walks before them, acting as a link-boy with a lighted torch, his hat, decorated with a fox's brush, in his right hand. Fox says, "Hold up Georgiana another Qn [? quartern] an we shall soon be at Piccadilly". The Duchess says, "My Eyes & Limbs I shall Spew on the Duke to night". Her other supporter says, pointing to Sam House, "make hast Sam her Grace is taking short in the poop". Sam answers, "I will my lord Heaven bless her Grace". The Duchess wears no hat, but her hair is decorated with a plume ot three large ostrich feathers (cf. BMSat 6530); her breast is bare." -- British Museum online catalogue

Abstract:
On the right, William Petty, Lord Shelburne, attacks Britannia pulling on her hair and petticoat while pushing her to the ground. She leans on her shield; her broken spear lies next to it. William Pitt, who stands behind her with his arms folded on his chest, looks down at her indifferently. On the left, Charles Fox, taking Lord North's hand in his, points to the distressed Britannia with an entreaty to join their forces in her defense and "Fox and North stand together in consultation (left). Fox, holding the right hand of North who stands on his right, points with his left hand towards Britannia (right), who has been thrown to the ground, and is being maltreated by Shelburne. Her shield and broken spear lie beside her. Shelburne has seized her by the hair and is tearing off her upper garments; he smiles saying, "I smile at the feeble efforts of them single". Britannia looking towards Fox and North cries, "Help! tis only your united strength can save me". Pitt, young and slim, stands beside Britannia, his arms folded, looking down at her and saying "I see her danger, yet, better she should perish than I join the Man I hate". Fox is saying to North, "Forgetting our former disputes Quick! let us join to save her". In the foreground lies a large scroll, inscribed, "BRITANIA rescue'd from the wicked designs of an artfull------", the last word hidden by a curl of the scroll."--British Museum online catalogue

Abstract:
A scale is depicted in which Lord North, dressed as a washerwoman, is weighed down with the assistance of Fox (a fox on the cross beam). Or the right, Lord Shelburne, depicted as a Jesuit in monastic garb wearing the ribbon of a Knight of the Garter and holding a money bag signed "Blessings of Peace" in his right hand, sits in the upper pan of the balance, with his tombstone below. The attacks of the North-Fox coalition eventually led to Shelburne's stepping down in February 1783
