Harewood U.S.A. General Hospital,, Hospital Number 20,215., Jarvis H. Kelly, Private, Co. H, 185 N.Y. Vols., aged 26, was admitted to the Harewood Gen. Hospital April 2d, 1865, with gun shot wound of back, near right shoulder. The ball passed upwards and came out near clavicle of same side. In its passage it fractured the acromion process. Wounded March 29th, 1865, at battle of Hatcher's Run, Va. On admission constitution was good, and wound in good condition. Treatment.—Several spiculæ of bone were removed, and simple dressings used. Gen'l Hospital, June 21st, 1864, suffering from gun shot wound of left forearm, the ball entering at upper third and passing upwards, grooving the head of humerus and fracturing left cavicle. Wounded, June 17th, 1864, at the battle of Petersburgh, Va. Resection of head of humerus, and of about three inches of left clavicle which was fractured, denuded and protruding. The ball was extracted from under fractured cavicle on the 28th of June. Operation performed by Surg. R. B. Bontecou, U.S. Vols., July 17th, 1864. The condition of parts at time of operation was tolerably good, but patient was weak from excessive suppuration. Hospital Oct. 7th, 1864, with amputated left thigh, lower third. The wound was received Sept. 3Oth, 1864, near Petersburg, Va.; nature of missile not positively known, but supposed to have been the conoidal ball. The patient states that the ball passed through the knee-joint. On the 29th of March, 1865, a sequestrum measuring about six inches, was drawn from the end of the stump. General Hospital, April 12th, 1865, with gunshot wound of the upper third of the left thigh. The ball entered posteriorly, passed upwards and inwards impinging against the femur, denuding a small portion of it of its periosteum, and lodged beneath the vastus externus muscle. The wound was received at Fort Fisher April 2nd, 1865, and was caused by the conoidal ball. The ball was extracted by Surg, R. B. Bontecou, April 17th 1865; the patient being under the influence of chloroform. The condition of the injured parts and the constitutional state of the patient at the time of the operation were poor. Cav., Aged 41, admitted to Harewood General Hospital, March 23rd, 1865, with accidental gunshot wound of the left hand. The ball entered about the middle of the palmar surface, and emerged at the dorsal, fracturing the third metacarpal bone. The wound was received near Petersburg, Va., March 15th 1865, and was caused by the conoidal ball. The use of the middle finger is much impaired, in consequence of the necessary removal of loose spicula of bone, and gangrenous sloughing of tendon of flexor muscle. On admission, the condition of injured parts and constitutional state of patient were tolerably good. Gunshot wound. Disarticulation at shoulder., Martin Burke, sergeant, Co. K, 15th N.Y.H.A., aged 29, admitted to Harewood U.S.A. Gen'l Hospital, September 13, 1865, suffering from amputation of left arm, upper third. Wounded before Petersburg, June 25, 1864; operation performed at Lincoln Hospital—particulars unknown. The patient states that at time of operation his constitutional state was good; but that parts became soon afterwards erysipelatous, extending through the whole chest, gangrenous and considerably sloughing, a destruction of soft parts, and the shaft was entirely removed by disarticulation at shoulder joint, by straight incision, March 29, 1865. The bone became necrosed nine months after the amputation; several abscesses had since collected in stump, and up to date, although the patient is good health, there are still several fistulous openings, with considerable discharge of pus. Treatment disinfectant, astringent lotions, and supporting throughout with liberal use of iron internally., and MARTIN BURKE.

Harewood U.S.A. General Hospital,, R. B. BONTECOU,, Robert A. Butcher, Private, Co. H, 82nd Pa. Vols, was admitted to Harewood U.S. Gen'l Hospital, April 16th, 1865, having two sabre cuts across the top of the head, received near South-side Railroad, Va., April 10th, 1865. The anterior wound was near, and in line with the coronal suture. The posterior one, about one inch and a half from the first and parallel with it. The bone was not denuded. The wounds healed rapidly. May 29th, the patient, for the first time complained of severe headache, and intolerance of light, and the anterior wound soon after re-opened discharging unhealthy pus. The head-ache gradually subsided, the wound again healed, and he was discharged nearly well, June 9th, 1865., Robert A. Butcher., and Surgeon U.S. Vols., In Charge.

Dec. 10th. Abscess midway between nipples and clavicle was to-day opened, and considerable pus escaped; a probe could be passed under the clavicle and all through the Axilla, which is one abscess, I cannot discover the ball, however. The patient walks about and is on his feet the most of every day., Dec. 1st, 1862. Opened the abscess above the clavicle and a considerable quantity of pus escaped. I was unable to discover the ball as I hoped. Poultice applied to this abscess., Dec. 29th. Since last report this man has gained flesh, his wounds are nearly closed and with but little discharge. Sent north to-day per Steamer "Star of the South.", Nov. 10th. The abscess in the neck and underneath pectoral muscles, having discharged through the shoulder wound, the poultice was discontinued, and the surfaces of the deltoid, which had torn from the sutures and gaping were approximated with straps, and the whole enveloped in lint and dry tow., Nov. 18th. Doing well; discharge less and the abscess of the neck and breast showing less indication of suppuration., Nov. 25th. Suppuration quite free, and indistinct fluctuation above the clavicle, and also in the pectoral region, midway between nipples and clavicle, left side. Some wads of clothing were removed by the dresser to-day; they were projecting from the gunshot wound. The wound is drawn together gently by straps, and charpie applied. The patient is allowed his clothes and to walk about, which he does, and feeling better than when in bed., Nov. 6th. Some increase of pain, and evidently increased swelling in the infra and supra-scapular regions, with tenderness and indistinct fluctuation, but no discoloration. The clavicle is difficult to recognize, the parts are so tense and swollen. Ordered poultice to cover the whole shoulder and neck, and a laxative of ol. ricini. Half diet., Nov. 7th. Doing well; discharge considerable; and ordered full diet, with one-half pint of beer at noon and night., Nov. 8th, Doing well, but not having slept well last night, was ordered pulv. dover, grs. x., and Private Robert Wilson, Co. D, 6th Conn. Vols., aged 24 years, wounded at battle of Pocotaligo, Oct. 22nd, and admitted to Hospital No. 1, Oct. 24th, 1862, with gunshot wound of left shoulder, the ball entering anteriorly, mid way between acromion and coracoid processes, and grazing the internal aspect of the head of humerus deeply at its junction with the neck of that bone. No other wound was made and the ball was not discernible through the wound. A considerable swelling under the pectorals, near the clavicle, with tenderness and green discoloration, rendered it possible that the ball was lodged there. Motion of the arm was painful; no crepitus, however. The swelling extended to the shoulder and arm, and some anasarca of the forearm; radial pulse good. Wet dressings were kept applied until the 28th inst., when ice bag and cerate dressings were substituted, and, Nov. 11th, swelling having considerably subsided, I resected the head of the humerus by a transverse incision of the deltoid, and a perpendicular one from it down the posterior part of the arm. The chain saw was applied after dissecting back the soft parts to a very small extent, and without dividing the attachment of any other muscle, the long head of biceps having been shot away; ice and cerate was continued, with oiled lint in the wound. When the joint was laid open, pus in considerable quantity came away. A track was discovered leading inwards under the clavicle, but the ball could not be found. The swelling has very much diminished, and he expresses himself very well. The case is doing well at this date, Nov. 5th.

There have been no symptoms indicating injury of internal organs. The ball was of the conoidal variety. The wound was received at Sailor's Creek, Va., April 6th 1865. The patient did well and was transferred to Philadelphia, Pa., May 18th, 1865., Samuel C. Pew., and Surgeon U.S. Vols., In Charge.
