Bound portfolio of 67 prints by William Hogarth. According to Ronald Paulson it was assembled in 1753, possibly by Hogarth himself for his friend Bishop Hoadly. Formerly held in a library in Winchester, Hoadly's diocese. The first sheet is the portrait print of 'Bishop Hoadly' rather than the more common 'Gulielmus Hogarth' suggesting that it was assembled for Hoadly. The latest print is 'Breaking the egg" without receipt, suggesting a publication date after December 1753 when 'Analysis' was published

Scene in a crowded room lit by a few guttering candles, 'far exceeding in profligacy and dissipation' anything depicted by R obert Cruikshank in St. Giles. Men and women fight, drink, and smoke. An old soldier fiddles, a woman beats a drum for dancers who are almost hidden but apparently naked. Cruikshank stands on a table, pouring gin from a large tankard inscribed 'R.C' into raised glasses. One prostitute squirts liquid from her mouth at another, a third pulls on her stockings, incidents taken from Hogarth's 'Rake's Progress' (plate iii). 'Blackmantle' watches the fight, smoking a long pipe. On the walls are placards: 'No trust' and 'Pig and Whistle: Rules of the Club." British Museum catalogue

Charles Churchill in the form of a huge bear (right, as in Hogarth's print The Bruiser) and wearing clerical neckbands, looks down, mouth agap, at a little dog (left) who snarls back. The dog personifies Hogarth as in his own print "Trump"; his paws rest on a artist's palette inscribed "Line of beauty". The bear's paw rests on a sheet inscribed "Epistle to Wm. Hogarth," the poem which Churchill published in response to Hogarth's sketch of Wilkes described as "John Wilkes, Esqr."
