"Four persons gazing at the prints displayed in a print-shop closely resembling though not identical with that in British Museum Satire no. 3758 (1774) which is evidently by the same artist. A man and woman (left) in macaroni dress stand together, he holds her left hand smiling, and pointing at one of the prints with his right hand. She turns aside smiling behind her fan. Two men (right) stand in conversation; one (right) points out to the other, who is in back view, both hands held up in astonishment, one of the prints in the top row, apparently that of Wesley. Other prints print of John Bunyan and George Whitefield. A dog befouls the foot of the man facing the shop-window."--British Museum online catalogue

The list is grouped by type, "10 historical prints", "72 prints of ladies, eminent men, humourous, etc.", "8 large landskips", and "12 views of Havannah", with details concerning framing, glass, cases, and shipping charges. On the verso, a docket title indicating a discount persumably because of the size of the order

"A man in quasi-fashionable dress with spurred top-boots and knee-breeches gapes oafishly at a print-shop window, while a little boy, respectably dressed, takes a purse from his breeches-pocket, having already twitched a handkerchief from the coat-tail pocket which hangs inside out. Behind (right) a lady stares through an eye-glass. In each pane of the curved window of a corner-shop (Berthoud's?) is a print. One of the Devil faces a portrait of the 'Duke of Wellington'; these are 'The Pair Half a Crown' [cf. BM Satires Nos. 13826, 15646]; 'Up to every thing' is a tall soldier, taking the hand of a woman at a first-floor window; 'A Loan' is BM Satires No. 14993; 'Man of Taste' is a man at the counter of a ham and beef shop (cf. BM Satires No. 13127); 'Remember the Post Boy your Honor', scene in an inn yard. There are other prints, one is a double sheet: 'Joe Lisle Play upon words'. In front of Humphrey's print shop window, a man sits on the pavement, having fallen backwards; his legs are splayed up, his wig is falling off, and coins spill from his pockets. The man's predicament is unobserved by four men studying the Gillray prints displayed in the shop window, each identifiable: a gentleman with a quizzing glass held to his eye; a military officer; a coachman; and a young dustman carrying a pair of skates under his arm, his nose eaten away by syphilis.
