Inscription: Printed by The Meriden Gravure Company, Meriden, Conn. The Paneth Codex (MS 28) was acquired in 1955 with funds raised for the purpose by the Library Associates.
Donated by the Mrs. William Warder Cadbury, 1966. Dr. Cadbury arrived in China in 1909, taught at the Canton Christian College, and practiced at the Canton Hospital. A number of snapshots are identified in Chinese. There are three loose photographs.

Identifiied by a patron as a letter to the emperor of China by the Secretary of State William L. Marcy about the designation of Peter Parker as American Commissioner to China.
English translations of a letter to Parker congratulating him on his appointment from the Lieutenant Governor of Canton. May be Huang En-t'ung or Huang Entong, ca. 1800-ca. 1882.
