First photograph carries stamp: "Amic Gazan [&] Mazzucchelli Sun Pictures.", G.R. Fardon traveled from New York to San Francisco in 1849. There he experimented with daguerreotypes, and developed a process by which prints on paper could be made from collodion glass plate negatives. In 1856 Herre & Bauer printed his San Francisco Album. 13 ALS from King, and a holograph autobiographical sketch (1 p.) with a note on the verso by James S. Loring dated Oct. 9, 1852, stating that the sketch is in King's hand. 10 ALS (45 p.) are to W. R. Alger (1854-1864), the last eight written from San Francisco. Other recipients include W. G. Bryan (Oct. 29, 1857), Mr. and Mrs. Corey (Jan. 1, 1850), and the "Chairman of Lecture Committee of M.L. Assoc'n" (Mar. 4, 1861) in San Francisco regarding a proposed lecture on Daniel Webster. The correspondence shows him a supporter of the Union cause.
