Description:
Lieutenant Colonel John Macrae Washington was a commander of the 9th Military Department of the United States Army and served as civil and military governor of New Mexico from October 1 to October 23, 1849. Some biographical sources list Washington as John Marshall Washington., Manuel Alvarez was a New Mexico businessman and politician., and Purchased from Jenkins Company on the Frederick W. & Carrie S. Beinecke Fund for Western Americana, 1975.
