In Italian., Script: Written by one hand in Gothico-Humanistic Cursive, which in the maps alternates with Capitalis. Headings in Capitalis inscribed on scrolls or tablets., Maps, borders and decorations in colours. Clumsily drawn human and animal figures., and Binding: Original limp vellum. On the spine is written "G***ctrica MSS". On the rear cover are a pen-drawing, upside-down, of the same decorative device as on f. 2r, and a sketch of city gates.

Capitals and titles in text in red, all edges in gilt., Illuminated first page begins: "MDLXIX. Ivro ego Ioanes Svperantivs Eqves Consiliarivs Venetiarum Sexterij Sancti Pauli ad avangelia sancta Dei, quod donec ero Consiliarius,...", This decorated manuscript, known as a Giuramento, contains the oath of the government-appointed counselor of the sestiere (district) of San Polo in Venice. In 1569, the Venetian patrician Giovanni Soranzo held this position, and he commissioned this illuminated legal document, the first page of which includes his name in large golden letters; his patron saint, John the Baptist, in the upper left corner; and his coat of arms in the lower margin. A Giuramento was issued to all six counselors of Venice and included a description of the doge's responsibilities. Counselors were members of the Collegio, the government’s highest executive committee. Two years before his appointment as counselor, Soranzo had served as the Venetian governor of Bergamo, in northern Italy., Volume inscribed by Giovanni Soranzo on the page (page [1], 2nd group of paging) preceding the illuminated page about his reelection as counselor in April of 1574. Notes added by various hands of 14th-15th centuries., Drawings of ships, towers and merchants in ink, with added yellow, brown, green, red and blue; many diagrams. Crude 2- and 1-line initials in red, with guide-letters for rubricator showing beneath; headings in red., Repair of f. 1 with later paper; some loss of text. Repairs at outer edges on this and other folios do not affect text., and Binding: 18th-19th centuries. Rigid vellum case with paste paper back endleaf and pastedowns. Central fold of each bifolium has been reinforced with a strip of parchment.

In Italian (Venetian dialect)., Script: Written by one scribe in black ink except for five lines in red; of these lines 145 and 171 are no entries, but rubrics introducing the sections dealing with the Sea of Azov and the islands of the Aegean Sea respectively. The handwriting is a small Southern Gothica Textualis Libraria under Cancelleresca influence; the latter is most apparent in the shape of the letter g and in the horizontal approach strokes at the top of the ascenders., The majuscules are heightened in red., and Damp stains have damaged and even obliterated some parts of the text, especially in its first section.
