A large clumsy dog (left) oddly like a bear, its collar inscribed 'Towler', sits under an oak surrounded by puppies; all bark savagely at a group of animals representing France and subject countries. Napoleon is an ape, who pushes forward an ass laden with 'Swiss Cheese'; he holds a staff on which are shackles and a cap of Liberty, and turns his head to snarl. The British dog barks "Keep off Boney"; all the puppies bark "Keep off". By the aged oak, up which ivy climbs, is a scroll inscribed 'Union' [cf. BMSat 10103, &c.]. The 'Gallic Mongrel', its collar inscribed 'Snarl', retaliates: "I bark at you I bite these". 'These' are animals to whose leg or collar is attached a heavy weight inscribed 'Liberty'. A collection of 41 printed items that chronical the 1820 plot to murder the Prime Minister, Lord Liverpool, and his cabinet, so named for location where the thirteen conspirators meet near Edgware Road in London. The police learned of the plot through an informer, George Edwards, leading to a police trap in which one policeman, Richard Smithers, was killed, but the plotters were apprehended. Five other conspirators were transported to Australia. The collection includes portraits of the plotters, views of the Cato Street area and the interior of the loft where they were found, broadsides describing the events (some with images), and descriptions of the execution of five of the conspirators. The collection includes a series of portrait prints by Robert Cooper after drawings by Abraham Wivell that were published as illustrations to Thomas Kelly's "The Cato Street Conspiracy" (1820). A drawing signed "Peter Jackson, July 31, 1960" is a 20th-century view of the exterior of the London building where the conspirators were discovered

A man (1), England, dressed only in a shirt, with an expression of horrified rage, is being held by two men, (4) and (5), representing Denmark and Sweden. France (7) stands behind him about to place a fool's cap on his head. Russia (right) (3), a stalwart man wearing a fur cap and long gown, is about to strike him with a large club. A plainly dressed man (2), America, runs off to the left with his clothes, looking back with a smile.
