"The Blockhead family, seemingly older by some ten years, admire W. B., now a sturdy young man, in smart tight-waisted lieutenant's uniform with knee-breeches. He looks over his shoulder at his reflection in a cheval-glass, beside which stands another young man dressed as a dandy (cf. No. 13029). A lap-dog shaved in the French manner looks at itself in the glass. Mr. B. sits delightedly in an arm-chair. Mrs. B., stouter and less fashionable, stands by W. B.; the toddling child of No. 14089, now a little girl, stands behind her. A tiny boy holds the sword and eclipses himself with the cocked hat. An elder daughter stands by her father's chair. Three admiring servants stand just inside the door: the fat cook (little altered), a neat maid, and a gawky footman. The husband and wife of British Museum satires number 14307 sit in a luxurious breakfast parlour, turning their backs on each other and the table. She caresses a cat, facing an empty grate (right); he is absorbed in a newspaper
"The Duke of Clarence, knock-kneed and meanly malignant, stands in profile to the left, his back to the sea. He wears top-hat, tail-coat, tight pantaloons, Hessian boots, and gloves, holding a cane; under his foot is a paper: 'Honor [thy] Father & thy Mother.' At sea is a man-of-war with furled sails flying the Royal Standard. Below the title; 'Vide Mr Denmans Speech. Octr 25 1820.' Said to be a good likeness. Three London scenes: a man being cajoled by two prostitutes, a young man being accosted by two debt-collectors, and a physician attending a patient. In the left scene, the man stands outside a tavern with its fascia lettered "Cordials & compounds" and "Hodg[son's] best", i.e. ale brewed by George Hodgson (and subsequently Mark and Frederick Hodgson) at the Bow Brewery in London: the brewery was rebuilt and enlarged in 1821. The prostitute on the left holds his wallet concealed in her muff while the one on the right tries to steal his fobwatch. A burning gas light on the left indicates night. "On the left is a pleasant old-fashioned tavern, 'The Kings Head', with a half length portrait of George IV in crown and robes. Ministers are seen within the open window, Castlereagh's profile on the left. A sturdy John Bull in top-boots stands outside, watching with distaste a disorderly and drunken rabble crowding round the door and (broken) window of the opposite house, the sign 'Mother Red Cap', a half length portrait of Queen Caroline, raddled and disreputable, a tricolour cockade in her conical hat. From the end of the beam supporting the sign hangs a pear (emblem of Bergami, see British Museum Satires No. 13869). The house (right) is a ruinous timber structure, shored up by beams. The crowd have a banner of a woman's shift inscribed 'Un Sun'd Snow NB "The Times" Taken in Here.' A man plays drum and pan-pipes. One man empties a bottle of spirits inscribed 'Queens Mixture' down the throat of a drunken fellow lying on his back. A fat man has a tankard of 'Qu[een's] Entire'. The two inns are respectively placarded 'The Original Brunswick House of Call for Loyalists--Pure Wine--Good Spirits --Sound Ale'; and 'The Brunswick Radical House of Call Italian Wines Bergamy Perry [cf. "A sequel to British Museum Satires No. 13895. The Queen has reached the top of the column; she is blindfolded and wears a fool's cap; but the column is shattered by the radicals, and she falls backwards, dropping sceptre and firebrand. The pedestal tilts, the column is broken in three, and the summit is being hauled down by a rope tugged at by a cheering mob of radicals with pikes. Flames and towering clouds of smoke ascend from a large fire at its base, on which a Bible inscribed 'I H S' and books of 'Laws' and 'Religion' are burning. The Black Dwarf (Wooler, see British Museum Satires No. 12988), kneeling, blows it with bellows. Crown, Bible, and cushion fall from the column. Hunt cheers the catastrophe, waving his cap, as do others. There is a tricolour banner topped by a skull and inscribed 'Blood & Plunder'. Cobbett (?) is now on the top of the Queen's ladder, with (?)
