A barge sailing along a hilly shore has as the figure-head at the high stern a bearded, Semitic face with a high pompadour of hair. Above it waves a huge ensign. Beneath the flag a man plays on the fiddle. The crew of eight, in shirts with black ties and tricorne hats, rows along. Their hair is arranged in macaroni clubs or queues. One of them is drowsing, another falls backwards. Behind them, a macaroni with a tricorne hat in his hand sits astride the bow

"Officers promenade, swaggering selfconsciously; three couples are arm-in-arm. One pair, one of whom is a lancer with a moustache, arrogantly stare at a taller and more dignified Life Guards officer wearing a huge curling plume on the crest of his helmet. All have small high waists with belts or sashes, bulging breasts, high collars, and stocks, narrow and sometimes tiny coat-tails, tight sleeves, high padded shoulders; usually a bush of hair projects from a fantastic shako or helmet. The two Life Guards officers have boots, wide at the top, reaching to the thigh. Two officers wear fantastically large plumed shakos. An officer in back view, (?) the Duke of York, wears the plumed hat of a field-marshal, and is arm-in-arm with a very tall thin officer"--British Museum online catalogue, description of S.W. "Four persons gazing at the prints displayed in a print-shop closely resembling though not identical with that in British Museum Satire no. 3758 (1774) which is evidently by the same artist. A man and woman (left) in macaroni dress stand together, he holds her left hand smiling, and pointing at one of the prints with his right hand. She turns aside smiling behind her fan. Two men (right) stand in conversation; one (right) points out to the other, who is in back view, both hands held up in astonishment, one of the prints in the top row, apparently that of Wesley. Other prints print of John Bunyan and George Whitefield. A dog befouls the foot of the man facing the shop-window."--British Museum online catalogue
