George III, submerged in water, his head and hands raised in supplication above the waves, is being pulled out by four men standing in "Victory's Boat." They are, from left to right, Admiral Keppel, Lord Shelburne, John Dunning, and the Duke of Richmond. A "Diving Bell" with a head of a judge, possibly Thurlow, is attached to the boat by another rope. Watching from the shore are Charles James Fox, with a fox's head, and Edmund Burke. Fox comments that "As maligrida [Shelburne] now does reign / all their labour is in vain," to which Burke adds, "if boreas was here he would much swell / and prevent the efects of the Diving Bell." 'Boreas,' the fictitious designer of this print is Lord North. The printmaker Twitcher is Lord Sandwich. The title alludes to the loss of the warship "Royal George" during repairs in Portsmouth in 1782

"Mrs. Clarke and four other women stoop down and directs blasts from large posteriors, defined by tight dresses, against the sails of a windmill (right) which pivot upon the head of the Duke of York. The four sails are inscribed respectively, Army, State, Navy, Church. The mill, on a low hill to which a winding path ascends, is Commission Warehouse. The names of the five meretricious-looking women are inscribed on their posteriors. One clutching a tree, on the extreme left, and advantageously placed on a hillock, is Carey. She says: If this wont raise the Wind, I do not know what will, This is not the first time I have employed my bottom to raise the Wind. The other four are close together: Cressaid, Sutherland, Cook, and Clarke, who says: Aye and no bad way to raise an Army-also. "A French recruit (left), an English recruit (right) face each other in profile, both are standing erect in a soldierly way, but are in civilian clothes except for the favour in the Englishman's round hat, and except for the bulky knapsack of fur or skin which each wears. They are described in words engraved beneath the title: "Monsieur all ruffles no Shirt Wooden Pumps and Stockingless" and "Jack English with Ruddy face and belly full of Beef". The Frenchman holds a slim cane, the Englishman a stout cudgel. "A thin man wearing a coat with military facings, draws after him (right to left.) a small four-wheeled carriage, similar to a bath-chair or perambulator, inscribed Cox Heath. In it sits a child with a doll. A dog stands at her feet barking at the man who draws the carriage, who has a bundle strapped to his back, apparently containing hay. At the back of the carriage in the place of a footman stands a ragged dwarfish man. On the farther side of the carriage is a recruiting sergeant playing a fife. In the foreground (right) a fat woman, the wife of the man drawing the carriage, walks along carrying a basket containing bottles and a large umbrella in her right hand; a musket is tucked under her left arm. She and the three men all wear oak-leaves in their hats. In the distance the tents of the camp are indicated. An inscription beneath the title has been cut off. Copy in reverse of the first state of Plate 3 of Hogarth's 'The Rake's Progress' (Paulson 134): A room at the Rose Tavern, Drury Lane (after the painting at Sir John Soane's Museum); to left, Tom, surrounded by prostitutes and clearly drunk, sprawls on a chair with his foot on the table; one young woman embraces him and steals his watch, another spits a stream of gin across the table to the amusement of a young black woman standing in the background; one woman drinks from the punchbowl; another is removing her clothes in order to perform "postures"; to the right, a harpist and a door through which enters a man holding a large dish and a candle, and a pregnant ballad singer holding a sheet lettered "Black Joke"; on the walls hang a map of the world to which a young woman holds a candle and framed prints of Roman emperors, all (except that of Nero) damaged. A second version of the paintings is at the Atkins Museum (Kansas City, Missouri).
