Manuscript fragment on parchment (damaged). The one side has fine drawings of a king and queen (with falcon) in elaborate robes. Beside them is a foot soldier in armor; below a warrior on horseback, in armor, pursued by an archer, without armor. Above is a centaur (Chiron?) shooting an arrow at a flying bird, a second bird on the ground. On the other side (much affected by paste) three warriors storm a tower.

Binding: Original stiff parchment over paper boards, remnants of two thong ties on the upper cover, slits for similar ties, now missing, on the lower cover; front cover lettered in very faded gothic script, apparently by the scribe: "PROBIER BUCH | ANDREAS OBERLENDER | 1532 |". A title has also been supplied by a modern hand in old style on the backstrip. Plain edges., Denis Duveen, acquired from Dr. Ernst Weil (bookseller), London, 1949; Mellon MS 104, acquired with the Duveen collection. Gift of Paul and Mary Mellon, 1965., Red inks used for tabular data and infrequent sketches of alchemical apparatus in the text., and Script: Written by a single copyist writing a practiced German secretary hand, partly in a modified Fraktur, partly in a more italic cursive, and occasionally (as in the title page) in a formal gothic script; a few additions at the end in a later hand.

Binding: Eighteenth century, France. Tan, mottled sheepskin; gold-tooled spine and red label with title: "Passio/ M. S. XIII. S"., Part I: 3-line red initial, f. 1r, with penwork designs extending length of inner margin. Headings, marginalia, paragraph marks, initial strokes, in red, through f. 39r only., Script: Part I (ff. 1-48): Written in humanistic bookhand, below top line. Part II (ff. 49-77): Written by multiple scribes in different styles of humanistic bookhand., and Watermarks, in gutter: Part I: similar in design to Piccard Waage VII.261-66 and similar to Piccard Werkzeug IV.1162-63; unidentified crossed arrows and balance within a circle. Part II: similar to Piccard Waage V.378 and similar in design to Piccard Waage VII.261-66; unidentified bull's head and same unidentified balance in a circle as in Part I.

Marston., Binding: 18th-19th centuries, Italy. Rigid vellum case with traces of title (upside down) on spine. Edges daubed red and green., Plain red initials, f. 1r-v; modest black initials filled with red, ff. 24v, 48r, 68v, 71v. Majuscules touched with red throughout., Script: Folios 1r-7r written in late caroline minuscule (portions of text retraced); the underscript of the palimpsest on ff. 7v-8v was also written in caroline minuscule. Folios 7v-72v written in inelegant Beneventan script., and Upper edge of book block damaged, with some loss of text.

(frate Gillio), De aedificatione animae, or Liber virtutum, translated from Latin into Venetian and from Venetian into Tuscan. 3) Andrea da Pistoia O.P., Epistola a un amico. (Perhaps the author is to be identified with Andreas Franchi de Pistorio (1335-1401)). 4) Prayers ascribed to St. Augustine. 5) The Apostles' Creed as supposed to be jointly composed by the twelve Apostles; the Seven Sacraments; the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit; the Seven Virtues; the Seven Mortal Sins; the Ten Commandments; the Works of Charity; the Ten Impediments of Penance; the Fifteen Signs announcing the Last Judgment. 6) Prayer to the Virgin., and Script: the main section (articles 2-5) is copied by a single hand writing Southern Gothica Textualis Libraria; the headings in Southern Gothica Semitextualis Libraria. Article 6 is in Semitextualis under Hybrida influence; the two final Latin quotations in a large decorative impure Textualis Formata. Article 1 in small rapid Italian Hybrida, the Latin Psalm verses in a larger and more formal form of the same script, with large opening majuscules. In the main section headings and stroking of majuscules in red; 1- and 2-line plain red initials half inserted, with large guide letters in the margin; a 3-line similar initial on f. 2r. Article 1 opens with an outline initial in black, art. 6 with a large initial with interior reserved space, placed in the margin.
