"A street scene. A stout ugly man on the extreme left turns to look through an eye-glass at a woman with a lean and grotesque profile. She wears a straw bonnet and is blown by the wind, her dress defining her figure, her hands in a large muff. Two men (right) walking hurriedly to the left are much caricatured; one rejects the outstretched hat of a ragged female crossing-sweeper. On the extreme right an ugly military officer puts his arm round a handsome courtesan. The windows of a corner-shop form a background: 'Chevalier Stinkpot Perfumer in General to the Court of St James's'. Large jars and bottles fill the window, some being inscribed 'court Sticking Plaister, Goula . . Lotion, Rouge, Pearl Dentrifice, Maccass[ar] Oil, Pomade Devine'."--British Museum online catalogue.

"A procession from the open door of an inn (r.) towards the room destined for the traveller, a fat, ugly, elderly woman with a twisted, appraising profile, holding up a fan in her right. hand, from the little finger of which dangles a parasol; tucked under her left. arm is a lap-dog. She wears a riding habit; over her straw hat is a hood or scarf. After her shambles a lean elderly man, much caricatured, carrying an embroidery frame, bag, and box. Behind him is a man holding up a caged bird, to which he whistles grotesquely, while a cat ensconced in an alcove grabs at the cage. An immensely fat woman, holding a 'Bill of Fare', stands against the wall, watching the visitor. The fat host (l.), napkin in hand, ushers her towards the room, with pointing thumb; it is called 'the Ram', the adjacent door is placarded 'the Union'. Bell-wire meanders over the wall connected with bells belonging to the two rooms; both are jangling. Through the door is seen the sign of the inn: a cock on a pair of breeches."--British Museum online catalogue.

On the wall hang two pictures on rollers as if they were plans. In one (left) soldiers with wheelbarrows, &c. work on the sea-shore, off which dismantled ships lie at anchor. In the other, cannons and cannon-balls with one sentry lie along the sea-shore, off which are ships at anchor with brooms at their mast-heads to show that they are for sale. "The King and Queen (left), seated under a canopy decorated with a crown and the royal arms, listen enraptured to a concert; the performers are arranged in a pyramid on the right. ... George III leans back, his hands clasped, eyes turned ecstatically upwards; he wears a laurel wreath and his head is surrounded by a star-shaped halo. The Queen sits upright with an eager expression, beating time; her hair and scraggy neck are covered with jewels (cf. BMSat 6978, &c). On the extreme left, and on the King's right, stands Pitt, very erect, a rattle in his right hand, blowing a whistle attached to a child's coral and bells. Behind the Queen are two ladies ... The royal party are on a circular carpet. On the roof of the canopy sits a demon holding up a purse in each hand, emblem of the supposed avarice of the King and Queen, a favourite subject with Gillray, cf. BMSat 7166, and see BMSat 7836, &c. Three demon hounds, inscribed 'G. R. Windsor', chase a realistically drawn fox (Fox), to whose tail is tied (by a ribbon inscribed 'Coalition') a pot with the features of North. The performers are arranged behind a low semicircular barrier. A stout man with a goat's head is asleep on the left, his hands clasped on his breast; from his pocket protrudes a paper inscribed 'Road to Wynnstay' (cf. BMSat 7068, &c). ..."--British Museum online catalogue.

"Bowes, apparently very ill, is helped into court by two men who hold him by the arms. On the right., above the level of the court, the two judges, Ashurst (left) and Buller (right), look down at him. Beneath them stands the Clerk of Arraigns, in legal wig and gown, reading from a large document inscribed 'Articles of Charges'. The men holding Bowes wear riding-boots and long coats and hold cudgels; they appear to be two of the Bow Street Officers, McManus and others, who pursued Bowes with a writ and brought him back to London. Behind and on the right of Bowes is a crowd of spectators. The most prominent is a lady with her hands in a muff, her breasts immodestly exposed, with a maid or attendant who holds her arm, evidently Lady Strathmore and her maid Morgan."--British Museum online catalogue.
