Description:
Binding: Twentieth century, by P. Dusel (1993). Dark blue morocco over cardboard, the edges of the boards decorated with a gold-tooled fillet ending on small lilies. On the flat spine the gold-tooled title "PROPRIETATES RERUM"., Collation is difficult due to the tight binding and the fact that the fold of ff. 2-5 has been repaired by means of strips of paper. There is a horizontal catchword at right on f. 24v. Parchment ff. 15 and 34 are both singletons with a stub (visible between ff. 14 and 15 and 33 and 34 respectively), through which the sewing cord passes. Probable extent of the quires: I (ff. 1-5), II (ff. 6-24), III (ff. 25-42)., Red stroking of the majuscules and red paragraph marks; red headings, in Hybrida in artt. 1 and 3, in Textualis in art. 2. Red plain 2-3-line initials., Script: Artt. 1 and 3 are copied by one hand, writing Gothica Cursiva Libraria. Art. 2 is by another hand writing a larger and more coarse Gothica Semihybrida Libraria., and There is a modern foliation at the bottom of the pages and another, incorrect one in the upper corners. Binding: Sixteenth century. Resewn on four tawed, slit straps. Wooden boards chamfered and indented. Edges gilt. The spine is square and now lined with cloth. Covered in dark brown calf, blind-stamped with portraits of saints (one of whom may be Rochus) and fleurons in concentric panels (?); very little of the earlier cover remaining. Clasp-and-catch fastening, the catch on the upper board, the brown leather straps attached through metal plates to the lower. Rebacked with one half of the leather on the boards replaced with old leather from another book. Catches and clasps wanting. Upper sewing supports broken., Initials for text divisions, 11-line (f. 115r: Ps. 101) and 7-line (f. 22r: Ps. 26, f. 40r: Ps. 38, f. 93r: Ps. 80, f. 112v: Ps. 97, f. 133r: Ps. 109), gold, with symmetrical gold tendril ornament, occasionally with dragon-head terminals, against green and mauve panelled grounds covered with dense red cross-hatching set in red and mauve frames. 7- to 2-line initials for other Psalms, red or green with red and/or green flourishes. 1-line initials for verses, alternating red and green. Headings in red and/or green throughout., and Script: Written by a single scribe in well formed late caroline minuscule, above the top line. Marginal notes, some with neumes above them (e.g. ff. 63v, 65r), in several later hands have been partially lost due to trimming.

Binding: Sixteenth century (?). The backs of the quires are cut in at the sewing stations and coarsely woven cloth stays are adhered in the center of each. Sewn on five tawed, slit straps laced into wooden boards. Endbands, sewn on vegetable fiber cores, are covered with the covering leather which is backstitched. The wooden boards are flush, or nearly so. The spine is rounded and lined with cloth extending onto the outside of the boards. Covered in dark brown calf with a diamond pattern drawn on each board with a pointed instrument. A rectangular space for a label [now missing] is cut out of the upper board near the head. There are marks of four round, brass bosses on the lower board and the remains of two strap-and-pin fastenings, the pins on the upper board. The brown calf straps are attached with metal plates. Some mold damage to the bookblock. Rebacked. Bosses and fastenings wanting., Plain initial with modest penwork designs, in red, on f. 1r. Small initials, 3- to 2-line, headings, and initial strokes, in red, throughout., Purchased in 1949 from Stonehill's by Thomas E. Marston; his gift to Yale in 1952., Script: Written by a single scribe in a neat running hand. Rubrics (often omitted), in a more formal gothic script, appear to be later additions (instructions for rubricator along outer edges of leaves)., and Watermarks: unidentified unicorn, in gutter.
