Part III: Harlfinger Lettres 66., Script: Each part written by a different scribe, all in Greek minuscule. Part I by Valeriano da Forli, who also wrote marginal notes in red and labelled the diagrams., Part I: Headpiece, 3- and 2-line initials with stylized floral motifs and headings in red. Diagrams in margins of geometrical figures drawn with compass. Part II: Headings in red. Diagrams drawn with compass and ruler, labelled in red, and fitted into written space. Part III: 2- to 1-line initials with stylized floral motifs and headings in pale red., Waterstains throughout. On f. 57r, spills, dirt and pen trials; several words effaced or obscured. Discoloration on ff. 1r and 78v suggests that this part was once separate., and Binding: Nineteenth century. Vellum case with a gold-tooled title.

For example, on f. 2v there is a note, in red, referring the reader to the proper portion of the text on f. 7v. There are several such corrections as well as marginal notes giving variant readings

A number of beautifully executed diagrams, in black and red, often extend well into the margins., and Binding: 18th-19th centuries (?). Limp vellum wrapper, with the title on spine and "Aelianus Angeli Vergecij" on cover.

Description:
In Greek., Script: Written in a neat Greek minuscule by Camillus Venetus., Book and chapter headings and 3-line initials in red. Many delicately drawn diagrams illustrating the text: tones, harmonics, scales, modes, the zodiac., and Binding: Sixteenth century. Original sewing with two strands of thread on five single supports adhered to the inside of the boards. Plain wound endbands are sewn on vegetable fiber cores which are laced into pasteboards. The square spine is lined all along with vellum. The edges are lavender. Covered in black goatskin, blind-tooled with a large diamond in concentric borders made up of flowers, foliage and heads in medallions. Two ribbon fastenings now wanting, as is some spine lining and leather.

In Greek., Script: Written by a single scribe in minuscule which varies considerably in size and angle. Many marginal notes by later hands., Some crude diagrams by original scribe within text (e.g., f. 33r: diagram illustrating the division of sounds); others added later in margins. Headpiece on f. 1r is a plaited design set in an elaborate rectangle. An elaborate initial O follows headpiece; simpler initials elsewhere. Brown ink used for decoration throughout., and Binding: Nineteenth century. Tan calf case of molded leather, blind-tooled with gold-tooled lettering on spine. Similar to bindings of MSS 255 and 258 and probably by the same binder. Possibly by Whitaker (we thank A. R. A. Hobson for this information).
