A scene in a fashionable library with ladies and gentlemen conversing with attendants at the counters on either side. On the left a woman looks in a book while her male companion converses with a clergyman, as the woman behind the counter consults a book. On the right, a man sits in a chair as a lady discusses her choices with the man behind the counter who reaches for a book below a sign 'Stamp'. Behind him is another sign "Just published [...]" An older woman with a walking stick approaches the counter on the right, followed by a Black servant and a dog. The windows are filled with books and prints. Through the open door a woman with an umbrella is silhouetted; to the left another sign "History Westminster and its monuments."

"Obadiah (left) mounted on the coach-horse at full gallop attempts to pull up his horse, leaning back in the saddle, his cap in his right hand. On the ground is Dr. Slop's pony. Behind the pony on the right. Dr. Slop lies on his back; a spotted dog prances over him. The doctor lies under a sign-post terminating in a hand pointing "To Shandy Hall". Abstract:
Tom Nero's body is laid out on a round table in a dissecting theatre. In niches on either side are two skeletons labeled "James Field" and "Macleane" after two recently hanged criminals. Three doctors work on dissecting Tom's body as a dogs feeds on his entrails. The room is filled with doctors reading and discussing, the whole presided over by the chief surgeon in a large chair emblazoned with the arms of the Royal College of Physicians
