- Abstract:
- Pair of wash drawings, one above the other, showing overall and detail views of the bronze hand kept by Horace Walpole in the Tribune at Strawberry Hill. Described by Walpole as "an Egyptian hieroglyphic hand," this sculpture is shown in the top drawing to stand upright with the wrist as its base. The thumb, index finger, and middle finger point upwards with items balancing upon their tips; the last two fingers are curled inward towards the palm. The bottom drawing shows in detail the pictures and symbols that decorate the palm and back side of the hand; these include a snake that wraps around the entirety of the hand
