In Italian., Script: Written by one person in neat mercantile script., One 4-line initial, f. lr., gold capital with white-vine foliage against a blue, pink and green ground, connected to a 3/4 white-vine border with brown penwork and gold dots; a coat of arms in wreath at center of lower margin. Two 3-line initials, ff. 7r and 14v, gold, against pink and green grounds with yellow and white filigree. Folios 1r-14v illustrated in margins with astronomical and geographical diagrams, all of them circular, tinted drawings in brown pen with red, yellow, blue and green washes. Folios 15r-24v decorated with unframed maps and illustrations drawn in brown pen, and tinted green, brown and red. Most illustrations unlabeled., Some leaves repaired; the manuscript shows signs of heavy use., and Binding: 16th-17th centuries. Resewn on three vegetable fiber supports. Rounded spine. Covered in black/brown sheepskin over wooden boards with corner tongues. Blind-tooled with five line fillets forming diamonds. There are traces of four bosses on each board and two clasp-and-catch fastenings, the catches on the lower board. Fastenings and bosses are wanting. Concentric circles are scratched in the center of the lower board. Rebacked.

Marginal notes by several writers (15th-16th centuries), one of whom added running titles in upper right-hand corner (recto)., A large empty space on f. 1r indicates that a miniature of ca. 27 lines was planned for the opening of the text. One 7-line initial, f. 1r, shaded pink and orange, with red, green, and blue acanthus leaves on dark blue, with white filigree, against a gold ground edged thickly in black. In the border, a red, blue, and gold flower, with spiraling vines above and below, green, light blue, red, brown, the spirals filled with dark blue or gold, with white filigree. Large gold dots with four black spikes. 2- and 1-line paragraph marks in red or blue throughout. Instructions to the rubricator in margins., and Binding: Twentieth century. Heightening in red of some capitals. Logical diagrams on ff. 7v, 8r, 8v, 9r, 9v. Titles are missing on ff. 2r, 59r (?), 65v (?), 69r (?)., and Binding: Twentieth century. Marbled paper over cardboard. In the Rosenthal typewritten description the binding was still described as "old boards".

In Italian., Script: there are two main scribes: hand A copied the treatise on hippiatry in large Gothica Semitextualis Libraria; its headings are in Gothica Textualis Libraria; decorative extensions at the ascenders on the top line. Hand B, who identifies himself f. 50r as Cristofano di Piero maniscalco N., copied ff. 12r-52v, upper part, in Gothica Semitextualis Libraria. The other texts are additional and have been copied by various scribes at various moments. Folios 1r-4v have red rubrics and are decorated with 2-line flourished initials, with abundant foliate marginal extensions. Guide letters in the left margin on ff. 1r-11v., Liber marescalciae by Laurentius Rusius, a treatise in 154 chapters. The manuscript also contains a large excerpt of Giordano Ruffo's De medicina equorum in Italian translation, as well as an anonymous treatise on hippiatry in 38 chapters, and a number of remedies, prescriptions, and incantations for various diseases., and Binding: 15th century: brown leather over wooden boards. Both covers blind-tooled with frames of fillets; the central panel filled with rope tools, surrounded by a frame. Flat spine with three bands and partly lost paper label with handwritten title “[MA]SCAL[CIA] / M.S. / DI VARI”. Remnants of two decorated brass clasps attached to the rear cover. Five brass bosses on each cover (the central boss on the front cover lost).
