On the King's right hand stands Londonderry (Castlereagh) in Garter robes; other peers stand behind him. All watch the antics of Canning, dressed in parti-coloured clothes as a merry-andrew or buffoon. He kneels on the dais at the King's feet, arms flung wide; at his feet is a high-crowned hat with a peacock's feather; on the back of his tunic are the letters M P and P C. He declaims: The delight of the Nation at the Celebration of your Majesty's Coronation, the Exultation throughout the Creation exceeds all Imagination. the Expectation to which the Anticipation of this Consumation has given occasion is beyond Contemplation; we offer the Oblation of our Congratulation, without Hesitation or Trepidation; no Tribulation can effect a Cessation of the Sensation which pervades every Station; no Situation in whatever Deprivation will utter an Execration for the Association are in Preparation to effect an Extirpation of all Defamation. We hope the Expectation of a Decollation will produce Annihilation of all Deviation from strict Regulation; we submit to Subjugation without Hesitation, and we offer our Oration with gratefull Adoration upon this Jollification. "A parody of British Museum Satires No. 10979 by Gillray. Queen Caroline and her supporters, realistically depicted, sleep round the dinner-table after dessert (at Brandenburgh House), their dreams are supported on clouds which hide the upper part of the wall. The Queen (left), dressed much as in British Museum Satires No. 14103, but with trailing draperies, lies back in an arm-chair, arms extended, her knees crossed and shoes kicked off. She wears the accustomed miniature of Bergami, see British Museum Satires No. 13858; her bracelets are inscribed 'C B'. Lieut. Flinn leans on the back of her chair, looking down at her protectingly, the only one awake. At her right hand sleeps Joseph Hume, identified by a paper in his pocket: 'Humes motion upon Queenboro'. Facing him and on the Queen's left sits Lady Anne Hamilton, wearing a feathered (Scots) bonnet. In an arm-chair facing the Queen Alderman Wood (right) leans back, one thin leg on the table. On his right is Dr. Parr; on his left Hownam, in naval uniform, bestrides his chair with his back to the table, his head buried in his hands which are folded on the back of his chair (inscribed 'C R'). Decanters are labelled 'C BR'; a (gold) centrepiece for fruit is supported by three naked nymphs. On the floor are glasses and many more decanters: 'Brandy' (by the Queen); 'Rum', 'Madeira', 'Port' by Wood. The carpet is patterned with hearts and arrows. In the centre of the wall is a large fireplace flanked by fire-screens, each with a half length portrait surmounted by a crescent. On the chimneypiece are three dancing figurines: the Queen apparently as Columbine (see British Museum Satires No. 14120) between a Turk (Mahomet, see British Museum Satires No. 13929) and a Harlequin (Bergami as in British Museum Satires No. 14120). Two bell-pulls terminate in satyrs' heads; similar heads decorate the chairs. The pictures are (left) a half length of Bergami as a courier above two smaller pictures: a tent on a ship, see British Museum Satires No. 13818, and the Queen walking with Wood. On the right a half length of Bergami after his promotion above a picture of Bergami and the Queen walking together, and one of Bergami rowing her in a boat (on Como). A globe enclosing a lamp mounted with rams' heads hangs from the ceiling. On the cloud, behind the lamp, is a vision of loaves and fishes, above, an open book inscribed 'Bless the [Qu]een'. The topmost dream is a coronation, realistically depicted: the King, crowned, and Queen kneel face to face, the Archbishop about to place a crown on her head. Peeresses stand behind the Queen, peers behind the King. On the right and left are two disks of light, which illuminate the scenes below. One is 'R I G H T S' (the letters in a circle) above a view of Buckingham House ('the Queen's House'). The other is 'P R I V I LE G E S': the Queen, wearing a crown, stands on a dais, a lady kisses her hand, other ladies stand on the left and right. George IV as a mandarin, languid and ill, sits cross-legged on a low settee. Peacock's feathers (cf. British Museum Satire No. 13299) decorate his round hat. Sidmouth as a Chinese doctor feels his pulse with concern. At the King's feet is a long rolled document headed 'List of Addresses presented to Caroline Queen of [Engla]nd'. Behind (right), a melancholy Chinese messenger hands Bloomfield (a Chinese wearing a large sword) a paper: 'Bill Thrown Out'. The latter registers dismay with raised arms. There is a slanting cloud of smoke as in British Museum Satire No. 13986. On the wall is a picture of the Queen, with sword and shield, fighting a dragon. "A scene at Court; beefeaters flank the dais of the empty throne (right). George IV stands before it, turning his back angrily on Prince Leopold, who bows distractedly, dropping his cocked hat with its field-marshal's plume. The King: "You smell of Brandynburgh ['y' being scored through and replaced with 'e']." Prince Leopold: "I have performed my Duty as a Husband to the satisfaction of the Country-- & I hope to do the same as a Son, & a Man;." Others at the levée register astonishment. Behind (left) a man in court-dress kneels facing the King, but is dragged away by three courtiers. He says: "Is this the answer to my Petition." One of the three replies: "Yes this is the Way we answer." Below the design: 'We've heard of the rump Parliment, Rump Chickens & rump't Dames [British Museum Satires No. 6716]. "The interior of a church (? the Chapel Royal) showing pulpit, side-gallery, and pews beneath the gallery. Wilkes (left) is the preacher, beneath him is his clerk, Pitt. At a right angle to the gallery is the royal pew (right), from which the King looks with earnest attention to the preacher. Queen Charlotte, her fingers to her mouth, also listens attentively. A lady-in-waiting and a courtier with a long wand (Lord Salisbury, the Lord Chamberlain) stand behind. The pew is decorated with the royal arms and has a canopy. In the centre of the gallery sit the Prince of Wales and Mrs. Fitzherbert; he turns away from the preacher, looking at her. Behind him stands George Hanger; behind Mrs. Fitzherbert sits a man looking at Wilkes through a spy-glass. Between him and the royal pew are three men in legal wigs and gowns: Pepper Arden, Dundas, and (?) Kenyon. Between the Prince and the pulpit sit North (asleep) and Burke, looking intently at Wilkes; a lady (? Duchess of Devonshire) attempts to wake North. In the seats under the gallery sit parties of citizens, in general asleep or inattentive. Below the royal pew stands Fox on a low stool as a penitent draped in a sheet; he wears a placard inscribed 'For Playing Cards on the Lord's Day'. A stout lady with an aquiline nose stands near Pitt; with a raised whip she chases a number of dogs out of the church. She has some resemblance to the Duchess of Gordon, a friend of Pitt. Immediately behind Mrs. Fitzherbert and between two Gothic windows is a wall-tablet inscribed: 'This Tablet is erected to the memory of the renowned Plenipotentiary who died by the bow string a short time after his return to Algiers. Two maiden ladies of this Parish who tasted exquisite felicity from his Prowess, dedicate this frail memorial to his loved memory'. Cf. British Museum Satires No. 7935, &c.
