Another man with a basket over his arm and a walking stick, a dog by his side, looks over to the right as his young female companion gestures. On the left a begger leans against the rails. Along the road beyond the gate and to the left are several carriages; a small hut on the right is identified as "illegible Water Works 1812". The gate is shown with lamp posts
