On the right, a clergyman spills his brandy as he surreptitiously gropes beneath a woman's skirt; Moll's serving woman, standing at the coffin with a wine bottle and glass in hand scowls at the pair. Under the window and to the left, the undertaker flirts with a pretty young prostitute who picks a handkerchief from his pocket. In the foreground Moll's small son plays with a spinning top. Sprigs of yew (rosemary?) decorate her coffin; a plate of yew rests on the floor at the parson's feet, another spring at her son's feet

Next to him a clergyman looks adoringly at the lady of the house on his left. In his hand is an open volume with text "A sermon, I am sick of love." She is dressed in a wrap and cap and, while smiling at the clergyman, surreptitiously takes a letter from a black servant boy who approaches from behind her chair. A parrot in a cage hanging above them sings, "Caesar and Pompey were both of them horned." A squirrel sits on a stool next to the table. In the foreground, a monkey sits on the floor, reading "A dissertation on winding up the clock, by Tristam Shandy." Illustration to verses printed in two columns. An elderly parson, holding his pipe, his back to the fire, makes gestures of rage towards his servant (right) who hurries terrified from the room as he drops a jug. His wife (left) holds his coat to restrain him, dropping a book from her lap as she sits in a chair with a slipcover. The verses in letterpress below the image relate that after a sermon on the misfortunes of Job, the parson told his wife that his 'patience and strength of mind' were equal to Job's, though she (like other women) was incapable of such restraint. His servant enters to tell him that the contents of a cask of ale had been spilt. His wife reproaches him for his violent abuse: "Job was not half so vext ..."; he says: "Answer me this, I say- Did Job e'er lose a barrel of such ale?" On the wall behing is a picture of Job suffering by the road as described in the Bible. See British Museum catalogue
