"A fashionably dressed lady and gentleman are seated facing each other, a tea-table between them. She wears an enormous 'derrière' and a projecting bosom; a round hat with a huge brim surrounded by a curtain frill of lace, through which her eyes and much-curled hair are visible. He wears a tight-fitting coat with a high collar, large buttons, and projecting shirt-frill. His hair or wig is in a looped queue with large side-curls. He looks at himself in a pocket-mirror with a satisfied air. His cane and round hat are on a chair behind him. The 'antient' dresses are those of the three quarter length portraits on the wall: in the centre are a gentleman and lady standing together in early Georgian dress, each holds a crook, a bird sits on the lady's finger. This is flanked by a lady (left) in quasi-Elizabethan dress, wearing a conical hat, a ruff, and a hooped petticoat in the form of a cylinder; and a man (right) wearing a high hat, cloak, slashed doublet, and breeches, holding a hooded hawk."--British Museum online catalogue

"Illustration to a broadside, printed in four columns in the manner of a newspaper, and covering the upper part of the third and fourth columns. A whole-length portrait of Mrs. Clarke (unrecognizable, but alluring), standing with one hand on the head of a sofa. In the background are four oval bust portraits of other women: 'Miss Taylor' [see British Museum Satires No. 11229], 'Mrs Carey' [see British Museum Satires No. 11050], 'Miss Gifford', and 'Mrs Shaw'. ... The text, in eight chapters, is in the quasi-biblical language not uncommon in satires, e.g., British Museum Satires No. 6465, and afterwards exploited by Hone. The text is an account of the relations between the Duke of York and Mrs. Clarke, and the Parliamentary proceedings, highly flattering to Wardle and Burdett. It ends: 'And behold he [the Duke] walketh in a vain shew, which shall fade in the sight of the people, whilst the fame of Wardle, Whitbread, and Burdett shall flourish and endure . . . the tergiversation of the Black Coats may whiten his honour [see British Museum Satires No. 11269], but who can believe him innocent of folly, vice, and acknowledged adultery? ... Now the rest of the Acts of Mary Ann Clarke, ... are they not written in the Chronicles of Blue Covers which flutter on the Stalls.'"--British Museum online catalogue

In a London street, young boys inflict various forms of cruelty upon animals. In the centre, a boy (Tom Nero), identifiable by the badge on his shoulder as a pupil of St. Giles's Parish School, thrusts an arrow into a dog's anus; he ignores the offer of a large tart from a sympathetic young gentleman (said by Paulson to be a compliment to the young George III). To his left on the front of the balustrade, a boy draws a prophetic picture of Tom hanging from the gallows. Below Tom, another boy ties a bone to a dog's tail. In the lower left, a dog disembowels a cat. In the center foreground another boy kneels on the cobblestones, about to release a cock, as another boy prepares to a stick at it; the boy behind him holds a second cock. On the balustrade one boy holds a torch while his companion blinds a bird with a wire. Further to the left on the balustrade a group of boys laugh at the sight of two cats fight as they are hung by their tails from a gibbet-shaped lamp post.
