- Manuscript on parchment of Raymundus de Pennaforte, Summa de poenitentia et matrimonio (Libri I-IV). With 61 selections from the Decretales of Gregory IX compiled by Raymundus de Pennaforte; Raymundus de Pennaforte, Dubitalia cum responsionibus (Responsio canonica).
- Description:
- Binding: Date? The covers are wanting but were probably of limp vellum. Original sewing on twisted tawed skin, slit ribbons, the sewing beaded in the center. A fragment of a parchment bifolium from a 14th-century breviary (mostly rubbed and illegible) is glued to the spine and cut out for the sewing supports; a portion of the fragment extends along the front and back of the text block., Fine flourished initial, 5-line, divided red and blue, with penwork designs in both colors and long marginal tail of letter Q, f. 1r. Smaller flourished initials incorporating the heads of bird-like grotesques and cross-hatching designs. 1-line initials alternate red and blue for chapter lists. Paragraph marks and running headlines in red and blue. Rubrics throughout; instructions for rubricator along outer edges of leaves, some perpendicular to text., Parchment, ff. i (early parchment flyleaf) + 138 (medieval foliation i-l begins on f. 2)., Purchased from Enzo Ferrajoli in Geneva in 1957 by L. C. Witten, who sold it the same year to Thomas E. Marston., and Script: Written in small gothic bookhand, below top line.

- Binding: 19th century (?). Quarter binding, parchment (from a music manuscript with 4-line red staves?) and paper printed in a rose and white decorative pattern over cardboard. On the front cover, in s. XIX handwriting: "Trattato di morale e teologia"; on the spine, in 19th century handwriting: "M.S. / 1421". Blue sprinkled edges., Headings in red. Alternately red and blue paragraph marks. 2- and 3-line flourished initials alternately in red and blue with very developed penwork in the contrasting colours in the left margin or in the intercolumnar space; at both ends the penwork terminates in conspicuous corkscrew ornament. 3- and 4-line litterae duplices with a yet more elaborate execution of the same type of penwork on ff. 2r (beginning of art. 2), 35v (2, beginning of art. 3), 52v (beginning of art. 4). The additional artt. 5-9 are undecorated., Purchased on the Edwin J. Beinecke Fund., Script: main text is copied by one hand writing Southern Gothica Textualis Formata. The additional artt. 5-9 and the notes are written in extremely small Gothica Cursiva Libraria, all probably by Dominicus de Seraphinis., The first page is badly soiled., and The manuscript contains: 1) Gerardus de Prato OFM, Breviloquium in sententias. 2) Iacobus de Benevento OP (s. - Binding: Sixteenth century, Italy. Original sewing on three tawed skin, kermes pink, slit straps laced through tunnels in the edge to channels on the outside of beech boards and pegged twice. Yellow edges. Plain wound endbands are sewn on tawed skin cores laid in grooves on the outside of the boards. Spine is lined with leather between supports. Covered in brown goatskin, blind-tooled with a triple cross in a central rectangle in concentric frames. Two fastenings; holes from pins on the lower board, the upper one cut in for straps which are fastened with star-headed nails. Spine: supports defined with double fillets; an X of triple fillets in the panels which are bordered with double fillets on the sides., Crudely executed initials red with blue and/or red penwork designs and vice versa; initials on ff. 7v-8v have green added. Blue headings accompany red initials and red accompany blue. Initial letters stroked with red throughout. Line filler in red, blue and yellow on f. 6r., and Script: Written in small round gothic bookhand, below top line.
