The photograph was taken from the eastern side of the compound. The mission at Sianfu [Xianfu] was founded by Arthur Gostick Shorrock in 1890., and This photo is from the papers of Rev. Dean Goddard, an American Baptist missionary who served in Ningpo, Chekiang, China from 1870-1903.

"An Extension Project in the village of Shih Ta: In this building, loaned to us by the village, we have a school for girls (the teacher, one of our graduates and now a member of our school faculty, second form left) We also run a dispensary, our school nurse going out 3 times each week." Men, women, and two small children stand in front of a building. and Also included in the International Mission Photography Archive.
Also included in the International Mission Photography Archive., Edward Huntington Smith is standing on the far left. His wife, Grace W. Thomas Smith, is sitting to his right. She is wearing an ornate hat. The other three women are American teachers. The three Chinese men are named Su, Pang, and Wong. The Ing Tai river is visible in the background. A Chinese tower can also be seen on a hill on the opposite bank of the river. Written on the photograph: "On our hill at Ing tai, 1902"., and The Smiths were a family of Congregational missionaries in China, 1901-1950, primarily in Ing Tai and Foochow [Fuzhou]. Edward Huntington Smith devoted nearly 50 years of his life to running an orphanage, raising funds, and promoting Christian education in Ing Tai, Fukien [Fujian], China. His wife, Grace W. Thomas Smith served as a Kindergarten teacher in the United States and China.
