In the foreground, along the edge of the river, a man on horseback holds the reins of a pair of horses as they drink; a dog stands in the shallow water looking up at the rider. A sail boat approaches from the left of the image while another, without its rigging, approaches from the right, another punt boat along its side. In the center of the image are a pair of rowboats. In the distance, on the opposite shore, is a view of the lawns leading up to the villa and the grove of trees flanking each side
