Caption title., First line: In the county of Norfolk, lived one Mr. Matthew Grey, a gentleman about 39 years of age, possessed of a very good estate., Printed in three columns. With three woodcut illustrations at top: one depicting a man about to hurl an infant; one depicting a man and a woman hanging from nooses; and one depicting a woman burning an infant's corpse in a fireplace while being watched through a window. With "A copy of verses" printed in lower right: Give ear to this most horrid tale, this dismal tragedy, so foul and deep it cannot fail to moisten every eye. ..., Matthew Grey, apparently insane, decided his wife was unfaithful and that he was not the father of his three children. Enraged, he murdered his entire family. The gruesome sounds of the murders attracted the attention of his neighbors, who rushed to the scene and apprehended Grey. Susan Smith, a girl of 17, was pregnant with an unwanted child. Unable to abort the pregnancy, she murdered the baby shortly after it was born.
